We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Put some tapwater in a plastic bottle, put a mountain on the label, and give it a foreign-sounding name. It's the genius of American marketing to sell water for 99 cents a bottle. Pepsi comes clean on Aquafina.
I understand the Democrats are frantically searching to see if they can link the President to either Pepsi or find out if he drinks Aquafina during his workouts!!
This could be their chance at another , uh, geeze, Watergate.
I understand a big seller in Atlanta now are dog collars marketed by Con-Vick ..
Vick's attorney is claiming he was at the mall , not the maul and they're going to call former President Clinton to do the deceased Johnny Cochran routine....something like
"If he didn't hold the chain, he ain't to blame"
It will be the first chance our first black president will have to give something back to whoever lost whatever he's giving back ....
I knew the first time I took a drink of that stuff and Dasani, and Arrowhead, and several others that it was just tap water. I learned that because we have a Brita water filter in our home and I make all the bottled water we need--it is delicious. Those "Nalgene" bottles (not the imitations from China) are wonderful. Fill your own! By the way HABU there is a well somewhere close to Trixie's I'll show you how to get there some day--it is the best water in the world!
Nalgene is great. The clear square containers are the best buy. Sometimes REI will have a sale.
And just a reminder to all, he said tendentiously, that bulk water stored in containers that are not absolutely, hermetically sealed will require testing for potability before consumption.
Here in the NW suburbs of Chicago, which is an amazing hodge-podge of cultures, but largely from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Greater Asia, the local stores have large selections of bottled carbonated water--mainly for those who were raised in countries, as the Assistant Village Idiot notes, where the ground water is unsafe. As a conservative I drink it because it makes me feel decadently liberal for a few precious moments--my contribution to diversity.
However, I understand that San Francisco, that pioneer of governmental insanity, is ridding itself of bottled water to make the earth safe(r) for Al Gore and his Jolly Green Giant movement. Sooner or later this kind of insanity makes its way east and small school children will be taught to denounce their parents who sneak swigs of Perrier or Borsec.
Drinking overpriced tap water stored in xeno-estrogenized plastic doesn’t seem like a healthy idea all ‘round. Someone should market, instead, Dew Drops from Dickinson, in little recyclable empty glass bottles, to quench our proud and parched perspective:
A DEW sufficed itself
And satisfied a leaf,
And felt, “how vast a destiny!
How trivial is life!”
The sun went out to work,
The day went out to play
But not again that dew was seen
By physiognomy.
Whether by day abducted
Or emptied by the sun
Into the sea, in passing,
Eternally unknown.
