We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I disagree with Roger Simon that there are too many Pres. candidates. The more the merrier. And, speaking of merrier, Ralph Nader will probably run again. Ralph is always a cheerful, optimistic presence. Did you know that he is from the lovely Litchfield Hills town of Norfolk, CT?
Iraq really has become the stickiest of tar babies; we can’t withdraw too precipitously, if at all and yet our military cannot do much of anything to help solve Iraq’s massive political, sectarian, and security problems. We are well and truly stuck. We can’t move forward and we can’t go back.
The relationship between the West and Africa is no longer based on openly racist beliefs, but such articles are reminiscent of reports from the heyday of European colonialism, when missionaries were sent to Africa to introduce us to education, Jesus Christ and "civilization."
Sippican did a great public service rewriting that Popular Mechanics article the other day. I especially liked the part where he talks about going to the lumber yard instead of Home Depot. I worked in a lumber yard. That is where I learned, among other things, to seriously swear and I am wondering where Hillary learned. Maybe at that Arkansas law firm. heh. I did stop when I woke up to the fact that it is so disrespectful to others, that regardless my point, the only message people would get is 'You Do Not Count'.
I would bet big money they are happy with the step upon the one hand and disapponted on the other. The 5.56 round hads proved ineffective in stopping the enemy.
The Army went with a 6.8mm SPC (Special Purpose Cartidge) for that reason. Now they're evaluating that round with "the weapon of the future" which I think comes with anger management attachment and a speaker attachment that repeats the mantra "We won't abandon you in the same way we did our South Vietnamese allies, we'll find a better way".....
Hi folks....vicious lightening strike took out computer(s), TV's VCR's, DVD's ...all were "protected".
It did not take out the lawn mower, hedge clippers or weed whacker...darn
Of course free range chickens aren't any happier - not that it matters, anyway. The whole idea was always just a projection of human attributes and desires onto incredibly stupid dinners. That sloppy thinking is called the pathetic fallacy, a name that has become more apt with time.
