Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A warning from John Adams, in a letter in 1814:

Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy that did not commit suicide.

Was it Churchill who said something like "Fascism is forever falling on the USA, but it always lands on Europe" ?

I wondered what happened to all of them.

Good point about all those 'thousands' of democracies, Rufus.

Churchill also said something about democracy isn't perfect but it's the best we've got. I doubt he said it with a tone of defeatism. - More like in-your-face.

I think Great Twitain could use a little fascism so they can lose that self-immolating welcome-wagon PC thing they've got going that's eating them alive.

LOL--"Twitain". Well, they're sobering up, these days, I think.

Adams--yep, he was actually the guy with the pencil, in the new nation's alliance-seeking mission to France. Ben Franklin's main role, at first, was to provide the charm, so Adams' manner & personality would less offend--or worse, bore--the French.
