Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Experience: A QQQ Bundle

I took the photo below yesterday during a delightful sail on Long Island Sound. The Bauer Island sandbar is clearly indicated on nautical charts, but this is the second-best way to find it. The wiser and now more experienced skipper must be a grand fromage in Rye, NY, because a Rye Police boat came several miles into Connecticut to offer assistance and ferrying services!

That is a serious bummer. But what a great picture. You'll have fun with that over the years.

-Go below
-Find a soft bristle brush
-Clamber out onto sandbar
-When boats pass, scrub hull down by the tumblehome
-Wave to everybody, then return to scrubbing
-At the club, mention to everybody you saved haulout fees and increased your top speed--- after you've all had three gin and tonics

I've done exactly that, on purpose. Cause I'm a cheap bastard and it was fun to explain to everybody that came by to offer assistance. Old salts usually smiled and saluted in some fashion.

It wasn't Gwynnie with that boat - Gwynnie took the photo. Rarely any damage with sandbars - newbies who don't look at their charts get the keel stuck in the sand as the tide goes out, and end up looking like idiots on an uncovered sandbar. At full high tide, they can usually float off with a little help.
