We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
How sad listening to this prayer that the children and grandchildren of those who fought at Normandy are doing their best to lose our civilization and our God. If you think not than imagine George Bush giving this speech.
A wonderful generation, now almost gone. Thank you for you devotion to duty, your fortitude, your giving and grace. We will be lucky if we see another generation such as yours.
We'll Meet Again
We'll meet again
We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through,
Just like you always do
Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say "Hello"
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song
We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
[ We'll meet again,
Don't know where
Don't know when.
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day.
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do,
'Til the blue skies
Drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say"Hello"
To the folks that I know.
Tell them I won't be long.
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go,
I was singin' this song.
We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
One of the best experiences I have had in this lifetime was being the host for quite a few "Brits". These folks had finally saved enough money to come to "the states". The time was in the mid 1970's. They wanted to see everything.
They were so excited to finally have made it over "stateside". They had waited 25 years to get here and see the sites. I wish the readers of this blog could have been on those buses with me.
During the long stretches they all joined in singing WWII songs. They were so thrilled to see the "Grand Canyon" , The "Gunfight at the OK Corral", San Francisco, the Hollywood movie studios, the Rocky Mountains, etc.,etc.
For two years I live on the buses that drove the folks who had made D day happen around the US. It was a great honor, and the memory sustains me today. Their hope, their faith, their absolute certainty that the US had the answer--DEMOCRACY.
My parents used to sing "By the light of the silvery moon" when they were remembering their war years. And there was one other, hope it comes back to me--drawing a blank right now.
