We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
What's happening in Vermont is what may happen to the US as a whole. Overrun by immigrants from surrounding states which in this case turned out to be a bunch of liberals. They took over the place from the local populace and imposed their stupid ideas. I wonder how many of those Vermonters who died in the Civil War are rolling in their graves. This is the land of my fathers and my father and myself never care to go back because of the newcomers.
"We're normal human beings," said Williams, 39, a history professor at Champlain College. "But we're serious about this. We want people in Vermont to think about the options going forward. Do you want to stay in an empire that's in deep trouble?"
Normal human beings don't engage in unnecessary quixotic madness. The Confederacy at least had a decent chance when it tried its hand at secession.
When the seeming crazy Polish cavalry charged Nazi tanks in 1939 they had little choice--death awaited them in any event. How does Vermont expect to relate to this troubled "empire" that almost completely surrounds them except for the part that borders on equally nutty Canada? Correct this poor Midwesterner if I am wrong, but haven't most of the native Vermonters been replaced with the more affluent and liberally chic from New York City and such bastions of deep thought? Isn't it home to our one admittedly socialist Senator?
with reasons to speak affectionately,
and yet with circumspection,
Vermont is sometimes referred to as
"the Nation's Pet".
there are more than a few who are educated
beyond their pay grade,if you get my meaning.
bright people, but with a distorted sense
of their own importance.
a few years back, the lower quater of NH had the same population count as the entire state of VT.
granted, many in southern NH are tax-refugess from MA,
but given the visual similarity on a map (by area)
the stat was stunning to me.
VT was "Middle Earth" for the Sixties "back-to-nature"
refugees, and with the advent of Saint AlGore's global hysteria, the fashionable fever only promises to spread.
VT suffers from a certain amount of
that deadly sin,"enviro-pride".
pretty accurate statements above from John about
"flatlanders" and Bernie from Brooklyn.
lotta people seem
not to be able to get enough of the guy.
some of the highest taxes in the nation,to boot.
in the defense of the current legislature,
the Speaker of the house Gail Symington(a Dem)
helped to table or defeat an impeachment proposal
aimed at Bush(by another Dem,Peter Shumlin) in the last month or so....the national precedent would have given the moonbat wing way to much gratification, and she was sane enough to see the divisiveness and harm it would
have caused the country.
