We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.
Great quot. This ties in with the Barristers great post labeling himself a " classical liberal", if he must chose a label. In the end it comes down to the power hungry vs the freedom lover, control vs liberty, lies vs truth, and right vs wrong.
Good point Heinlein makes, even though we all submit to some governing authority at the end of the day. Guess itís a matter of consent, kind and extent, how personally intrusive government is with law and policy after we collectively decide on our fearless leaders and bozos at the ballot box. May we the people remain clear-headed and free enough (with majority independent temperaments) to keep voting against the iron fist of tyranny, the velvet glove of good intentions, paternalism and co-dependence and the dirty hand of corruption. May we always be given a choice by our on-going choices and not go the way of Dem-Euro-Progressivist-Statist-non-democratic Bureaucratist-Fiatist--
