We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A Harvard Prof on Gore

Our blog friend and Physics Prof Lubos Motl on Al Gore:

This Gentleman is a mad megalomaniac and it is surprising to see what kind of a special treatment such an insane person can get in the Parliament of the most powerful and advanced country in the world.

Read the whole thing. I agree with Lubos. In the clips I saw of his testimony to Congress, his tone had that eerily calm, certain tone you hear from psychotics about their alien abductions. The absence of any self-doubt or humility is the tell.

What happened to this guy?

I noticed his personality begin to change during the 2000 campaign when he took a surprising left/populist track and he started to get weirder as the campaign went on. The psychotic switch was definately flipped during the pressure and great dissappointment at the outcome of the election. He's never psychologically recovered. He'd be an absolute nightmare as POTUS.

I have and would vote for gore again in a presidential election. Simply put, he did go against the U.N.'s data of sea level rising and may have forgot to talk about cold related deaths, but dont call him a psycho. Someone who cares for the Earth and the people in it as much as he does should be praised. He simply made dramatic depictions of the worst case scenarios where antarctica and greenlands ice could fall into the ocean. I think it is best that we prepare for the worst case scenario than have it happen. If it does happen, not only will people like yourself look like fools, but people like myself will have to suffer as well. Quit being a Gore hater. If you want to hate an American politician go after Bush...he's a much easier target.

James, under your twisted rubric of interventionism anything (not just anthropogenic catastrophic global warming) with a "consensus-truth" defined chance of harming anyone qualifies as a cause for which we should spare no expense in mitigating - whether the actions taken and the expenses incurred accomplish what's intended...

Cooler and calmer heads must prevail in this matter and Al Gore is simply a shrill alarmist operating on faulty assumptions drawn from questionable science who should not be considered either a credible source or a reliable commentator - he is biased and politically motivated.

I think you need to get over the fact he lost the election, it shows.

I noticed the same thing at the same time. That yr 2000 recount month-plus that he spent mostly alone in his bedroom (according to many reports) plotting his legal moves, did him in.

When he emerged to concede, his entire demeanor had changed. He trotted out the family for that concession presser and the whole clan looked mortified and terrified.

Frankly, dad had gone bonkers.

This was clear to the eye, not to mention the poor ear.

Absent BDS and its spite, hatred and anger, cooler heads in the Dem leadership would've long since put Al quietly out to pasture.

But his loony nonsense fits right into their current preferred overcharged and eventually (hopefully) opposition-exhausting atmosphere.

It had to happen sooner or later that we'd get saddled at the same time with not one but two manaical and diabolical major politicians--Al and Hill. I am not sure who is more worrisome since both have a fuehreristic craving for power. One problem is that we do not have a counterbalance in our press and media to offset these walking disasters.

We can only place our hope in the general sanity of most Americans and in the likelihood that our twin Il Duce's will eventually shoot themselves or each other in the foot.

too true. BD reminds "hope is not a plan", but without a plan, the working motto might fall back to "where there's life there's hope".

I don't approve of labeling people one disagrees with as crazy, but there just seems to be something a little "off" about the guy now, which I didn't see in him years ago.

Another interesting tudbit about Al Gore: go look at the "Live Earth" website section entitled "Who We Are". The picture chosen by Gore (or his people) is one from when he was running for the Democrat presidential nomination, circa 1992. The marked difference between his appearance then (about 100 lbs lighter) and now is telling: Gore has an image of himself that doesn't correspond to reality!
