Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Snow Peas

In New England it is traditional to put your peas in on St. Patrick's Day. I like to grow Snow Peas and Sugar Snap peas.

To do that enjoyable task today would entail literally planting the Snow Peas in the snow. They'll have to be late this year.

I much prefer sugar snap peas over snow peas. Saute them in some butter, add a squirt of lime juice, and serve.

rwf, I agree. But snow peas are good to toss in Chinese stir fries at the last second. More than 15 seconds heat and they go unattractively limp.

Snow peas are yummy raw, used as a dip vehicle...The kids used to graze on them plain in the garden.

I grew some peas one time, and would you believe that instead of having peas inside the pods we found tiny little spiders. We ate them anyway though, i mean spiders are a very good source of protien. Got a new crop in the ground now, hoping for chickens this time i need the eggs to grow a bean stalk. I'll let you know how they turn out.
