Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A good place to start is "The Devil's Dictionary". Marvelous stuff, light, humorous, pointed, in the Samuel Clements/Will Rodgers vein. Google it for great samples.

I like Buddy Larsen.

Buddy has good taste, if sketchy spelling. Perhaps he was listening to "The Sound Of Music" soundtrack while evaluating the 49ers new cornerback acquisition while he took a stab at those names.

That quote is from the Devil's Dictionary. I forget which word it is.

Twain and Bierce were contemporaries. They hated each other. I think they hated each other because they were both so good and worked the same side of the street. Disregard as a form of grudging respect.
