We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Fascinating and damning review of the climate change scam (h/t, reader). When I have time, I will quote from it or post some graphs. In the meantime, check it out: Nine Facts about Climate Change.
OK, here's one quote:
Environmentalism has largely superseded Christianity as the religion of the upper classes in Europe and to a lesser extent in the US. It is a form of religious belief which fosters a sense of moral superiority in the believer, but which places no importance on telling the truth. As the former Canadian Environment Minister Christine Stewart put it:
No matter if the science is all phony (sic), there are collateral environmental benefits. Climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world.
"Justice and equality in the world" just by buying carbon credits? Far out, dude. I know a fat guy who sells them wholesale, out of his tobacco barn in Tennessee.
And here's a polar temps graph for the past 5000 years:
I don't get all this complaining about climate change. If it weren't for climate change we might might not have Champagne!
"Prior to the late 1400's, the Champagne region of France was in a neck and neck race with Burgundy to produce the finest wines for the French King. Because of its geological proximity to rivers that could easily reach Paris, it typically had the upper hand. But that all changed when a dramatic climate shift moved through the Northern hemisphere in the 1490's.
Plummeting temperatures not only caused the premature freezing of major rivers like the Thames, but also brought with them a shorter growing season that hit Champagne particularly hard. Yeast that converted the sugar in pressed grape juice to alcohol suddenly stopped processing mid-season. When the spring came and the temperatures began to rise again the yeast began processing sugars for a second fermentation. This produced an excessive amount of carbon dioxide in the wine and that, as they say, was that. Wine from Champagne would never be the same. "
All fine and good for you to say, my dear Andrew, but do you want scads of wealthy liberal Democrats sipping on the bubbly? And many of them lawmakers and policy advisors. It's bad enough with their cognitive imbalance as it is.
As for the article, I shall have to read it more at leisure and use it for my many deluded friends who bow before the altar of Gore and his mass media heralds. My feeling is that the moment of Gore's greatness has passed and the eternal footman is holding his coat and snickering.
John, I hesitated even posting this ironic piece of trivia, not wanting to give Francophliles like John Heinz Kerry one more reason to keep their snouts held high in the air. But alas, we must give credit where credit is due, and the past 225 years have been tough on the French. Since the naval blockade of Yorktown, they have not contributed much to the US of A, save a great real estate deal, Alexis de Tocqueville, and the Le Car....well 2 outa 3!
Bird Dog, since PETA is using Global Warming to drive their anti meat agenda, I wonder which of my two favorite foods produce more CO2, meat or alcohol! Not that it matters, I ain't given either of them up.
