We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The concert will produce more CO2 in one day than Zimbabwe produced in any month in 2003. The concert will produce more CO2 in one day than the total daily fossil fuel emissions for Austria, Chile, Finland, Greece, Iraq, Kuwait, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, Sweden, the Virgin Islands, and a dozen other countries combined. * The concert will produce more CO2 in one day than the entire nation of Afghanistan produces in a year.

...Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
Bush Crawford House is Super Green
Ecological Design Center
Is it possible that George Bush is a secret Green? Evidently his Crawford Winter White House has 25,000 gallons of rainwater storage, gray water collection from sinks and showers for irrigation, passive solar, geothermal heating and cooling. “By marketplace standards, the house is startlingly small,” says David Heymann, the architect of the 4,000-square-foot home. "Clients of similar ilk are building 16-to-20,000-square-foot houses." Furthermore for thermal mass the walls are clad in "discards of a local stone called Leuders limestone, which is quarried in the area. The 12-to-18-inch-thick stone has a mix of colors on the top and bottom, with a cream-colored center that most people want. “They cut the top and bottom of it off because nobody really wants it,” Heymann says. “So we bought all this throwaway stone. It’s fabulous. It’s got great color and it is relatively inexpensive.”...-
Great stuff there Patina. Bedtime now but I look forward too exploring tomorrow. BTW, geothermal heating/cooling is the cat's meow. I put it in my last house, one-third the cost of electric/gas. Payback takes a while, but it lasts forever.
This is an area I'd love to see these limosine liberals get hammered on...
Gore with his energy hog mansion
Energy wasting 'aid' events
Edwards with his ridiculously huge, ostentatious mansion for a small family
Not that I really care what people do, it is just their obscene hypocrisy, their moral preening, their obvious lying that drives me batty. It is a sign of bad character that I do not want as the leader of the most important and powerful country in the world. God help us!
Than as Patina pointed out, you have a very rich man in Bush who builds a house reasonably sized for his family's requirements and build with ecological sensitivity without bragging and showcasing it. It is just a reflection of his true character. God bless him!
