Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

A BIG SHOUT OUT TO GEORGE WASHINGTON ON HIS BIRTHDAY....TODAY...
Yes kids not all past Presidents were born on Presidents Day. Hooray for the father of our country!
meanwhile, back at the ranch, re the link to the Sandy Berger piece: http://instapundit.com/archives2/002773.php watch it, RWP, don't let the language-twisters get you. What almost ruined you was 'mock-civilization' --I'll betcha.
I want to state for the record that I am against the recent explosion of office pool and Vegas betting on the day and time Brittany Spears joins Elvis at room temperature.
The ubitquitous checkered poster paper with dates and times going for up to $100 a date is not fair. The Vegas "Bodybag for Brittany Day" betting is beyond the pale. Please resist these satanic seductions even in light of last nights attack with an umbrella on photographers at an LA gas station. Sometimes it go so bad I would have to open the door and let some of them out.
Keeping Up With Hollywood and Black History Month
The Last King of Scotland spins in his grave as film proves a huge hit in Uganda ROB CRILLY IN KAMPALA ...."The look of bemusement on Nicholas's face is one likely to be shared by audiences when they consider that this dangerous, brutal despot, rumoured cannibal and executioner of as many as 500,000 of his own people, also gave his children Scottish names such as Campbell and Mackenzie, swooned to the sound of bagpipes and liked nothing better than getting trussed up in full Highland dress." (more) Ok so the guy was a cannibal, whats the deal? http://news.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=972&id=1828302006 KEEPING OUR BLACK HERITAGE ALIVE...BLACK HISTORY MONTH
BLACK HISTORY MONTH BLACK BARBIE ..""Colored Francie" made her debut in 1967, and she is sometimes described as the first African American Barbie doll. However, she was produced using the existing molds for the Caucasian Francie doll and lacked correct ethnic features other than a dark skin. The first African American doll in the Barbie range is usually regarded as Christie, who made her debut in 1968.[10][11] Black Barbie and Hispanic Barbie were launched in 1980. In 1997 Mattel joined forces with Nabisco to launch a cross-promotion of Barbie with Oreo cookies. Oreo Fun Barbie was marketed as someone with whom little girls could play after class and share "America's favorite cookie." As had become the custom, Mattel manufactured both a white and a black version. Critics argued that in the African American community Oreo is a derogatory term for a person like the chocolate sandwich cookie itself, meaning that the person is black on the outside and white on the inside. The doll was unsuccessful and Mattel recalled the unsold stock, making it sought after by collectors.[12] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie Habu, in your observations of BHM, let's not leave out what Teddy Kennedy's righteous PC thunder--and sanctions threatened and implemented--back in the 80s did for his beneficiaries in South Africa and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
The gov't of SA recently officially deemed crime "out of our control" and Zimbabwe's inflation rate, and financial house in general, is no longer even measurable. Both nations are apparently rapidly becoming unlivable. Do a news search--neither story gets much coverage over here--wonder of wonders. MSM wouldn't want to hint at any links between Teddy-politics and "disaster", would it. Even though I don't like him I have to say that habu is doing a fine job in covering Black History Month. It must be his guilty.
I would like to add some things I have learned that we don't experience up here in New England much. It comes from Human Rights Watch. African-Americans are 13% of the population. They make up for 30% of all arrests in America. 41% have been to jail. The prison population is 49% African American. This is a cry for help. We must give them reparations for the South keeping slaves. Those stats are just heartbreaking. I doubt the numbers looked like that in 1950, before the Fed. Govt helped destroy the black family.
RE: Both nations are apparently rapidly becoming unlivable.
Has anyone told Paul Simon? /s I remember just a few years back when Quadaffi (sp?) drove North from the tip of South Africa, through the length of the whole continent, handing out guns and money. Actually, Mr. Slater, it IS a cry for help, and what is needed is less "cry for help" hearing amongst the culture at large.
Your stats come from the inner cities, the locked & gated liberal plantation. "Hands off my poor people" is the liberal cry that provides those stats you quote. "It's not your fault" says the culture, until the point at which the child so raised needs to be locked up. You're right, it is a terrible situation. Let's figure what to do. Blaming century-and-ahalf-gone slavery is all well and good--but how does it fix anything? Besides, the punishment for slavery was the 7% of the white population that died in the Civil War. Buddy,
I think I mentioned before in a post elsewhere that when Rhodesia was Rhodesia I had several contacts there. Mostly Selious Scouts and a few air types and intel types. I'm proud to say in my official capacity at that time I helped them out. One of my friends was flying an old T-6 Texan that had been modified to drop bombs, strafe etc. Well one day he gets some engine trouple and sets down on the savanna and waits for help or the enemy. Night falls. He sleeps in the cockpit with the canopy closed. Later that night he finds himself surrounded by a pride of curious lions. There under the plane ,on the wings, clawing the canopy and he's got a 10 on the pucker factor scale..help arrived...I think it was a bad magnito.anyway he got out but the country we couldn't save ..at that time there were too many Cubans, Hungarians, and other Soviet satilllite troops supplying the bad guys...now a really beautiful country is in the shitter.....and that's black history month. I read recently where President Mugabe has invited the whites back to do the farming since planting seeds was too difficult for the indigineous population. I'm surprised South Africa hasn't gone totally ghetto yet..but then they had a much more robust international trade and the blacks were smart enough not to kill off all the whites. From top to bottom that entire continent is a train wreck in every aspect. And it's a beautiful continent. In my early years as strictly a clandestine courier I was there from top to bottom, Eqypt to SA and several places in between. OUR DIET? IS IT REALLY KILLING US?
1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. 2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. 3. Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. 4. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. 5. Germans drink beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than us. CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.... Mr. Larsen - FYI - some comedian is posting using my name. I haven't posted to any thread besides the other night's. perhaps Maggie's Farm should check the e-mail addresses...
Mr. Slater,
You are welcome to post under your name. Last night's thread was a great one showing how Americans can get on with things. About someone else. We're having the bipolar commiteee on theraputics look into the blighter or blighterette. Please come visit with your insights more often. Mr.Slater,
We've tracked down the culprit. It appears that the Grand Pooh-bah of the High Mookie-Mook is sewing bad juju over the New England truckers who are flying "that" flag. They are also telling us that you drive a Toyota, is that correct? With regard to, who in DCstole what, and who knew what, etc. I have been troubled by the fact that it is more important to name the person, who "outed Valerie", than it is to understand whether or not, she was one of the incompetent agents responsible for providing the new president with the wrong information regarding weapons of mass destruction. It seems to me to be more important to assess her competence, than to punish the source of the naming. Am I missing something here?
Apple Pie,
The thing that everyone is missing is that she was at the time of her"outing" not in a covert catagory covered by the laws they are trying to apply. This entire thing is absurd. This Powerline piece will explain. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/011038.php Please folks, don't make fun of Mr. Slater, it doesn't sound like he is lying, it seems like the gentleman is telling the truth.
Why wouldn't someone steal his name? It doesn't seem like all of you are to fond or welcome of him or his opinions. But on another note, spring training just started, now thats an American sport. If you guys and gals don't settle on a handle and stay in voice, I'm gonna come over there and straighten you out.
I wish to thank Mr. Habu for not only writing all my posts (see #11 and #17) tonight, but for replying to them too under his various aliases, of which I especially liked D.B. Cooper-Smythe, Esq. He is a witty fellow, and has saved me much time. Think I'll turn in.
For the record, I do not believe in reparations, I have never been to Africa, and I do not drive a Toyota. I always have a little lithium bicarbonate when i'm not feeling myselves.
Dedicated to Mr. Slater.
BONNIE BLUE FLAG We are a band of brothers and native to the soil Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star! Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. As long as the Union was faithful to her trust Like friends and brethren, kind were we, and just But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. First gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand Then came Alabama and took her by the hand Next, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida All raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. Ye men of valor gather round the banner of the right Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fight Davis, our loved President, and Stephens statesmen are Now rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. And here's to brave Virginia, the Old Dominion State. With the young Confederacy at length has linked her fate. Impelled by her example, now other States prepare To hoist on high the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star. Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. Then here's to our Confederacy, strong we are and brave, Like patriots of old we'll fight, our heritage to save. And rather than submit to shame, to die we would prefer So cheer for the Bonnie Blue flag that bears a single star. Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah! Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star. Then cheer, boys, cheer, raise a joyous shout For Arkansas and North Carolina now have both gone out; And let another rousing cheer for Tennessee be given The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven! Great rendition of that song in the movie "Gods and Generals". In the scene, Ted Turner and I believe Robert Byrd are sitting in the confederate audience, costumed, as the song troupe puts on the show, USO-style, behind the lines in the winter of 62-63 (i believe it was). Ted Turner produced the film, and it was fairly fair, oddly enough. Chamberlain was the modernist hero, the Reb officers were mostly old-timey Cavaliers and fire-eyed God-seers. probably not too far from the truth. Great scenes of Chancellorsville, BTW. Only a movie, but you get to see a Reb battle line of thousands advance, with the Stars n' Bars snappin' in the breeze.
I liked Duval as Lee and Stephen Land played a masterful T.J. Jackson.
One lousy night recon changed the entire war. Turner intended a trilogy but I understand the third movie has been scrapped. It was too hard on Ted not to let the Rebs have a few A-10's for close air support so he said the hell with it. He got close but Jane wanted to sit in an anti aircraft battery and fire on the A-10's ...caused the entire marriage to go bad and the movie flopped Ted went on to buy Montana and Jane went back to her anti war roots. You know to this day if she was on fire I wouldn't piss on her to put it out. It was Stephen Lang.
BL...did you see this......... 110th U.S. Congress (2007-2008) H.R. 1022: To reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h110-1022 I bought a thousand rounds yesterday for my new AK-47. The M-16 newly calibered in 6.8 mm also has as many rounds available. I believe tomorrow I'm going to buy an M-14, my all time favorite. I think with the proper scope I can get 800 yards out of it. I don't want a 50 caliber...but then again... Now here's a honey from down your way (work safe) http://texasbrigadearmory.com/m40a1.htm It can drive a finishing nail into a board at 800 yds easy. Tomorrow, well actually today here. Anyway on 2/23 this occured..you'll recognise it.. http://www.history.com/tdih.do?action=tdihArticleCategory&id=6816 Night time As legal counselor to Maggie's Farm, and a senior partner at Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe in New York, may I respectfully request that our commenters not comment under other commenter's names.
Noms de plume are quite fine with us (although I would never stoop to using one). But we ought not create straw men to debate; there are enough real ones with whom to debate and discuss. Let's welcome those who disagree with sincerity, and not drive them away. Not many dummies read Maggie's. To true trolls, of course, whose motives are purely hateful, we show no mercy. In fact, we delete troll comments when found. Dedicated to Mr. Habu -
REPLY TO "THE BONNIE BLUE FLAG" [Also known as The Stripes and Stars] by Colonel J.L. Geddes We're fighting for our Union, We're fighting for our trust, We're fighting for that happy land Where sleeps our father dust. It cannot be dissevered, Though it cost us bloody wars, We never can give up the land Where floats the stripes and stars. Chorus: Hurrah, Hurrah, For equal rights hurrah, Hurrah for the good old flag That bears the stripes and stars. We trusted you as brothers, Unitl you drew the sword, With impious hands at Sumpter You cut the silver cord. So now you hear the bugles, We come the sons of Mars, To rally round the brave old flag That bears the stripes and stars. Chorus We do not want your cotton, We do not want your slaves, But rather than divide the land, We'll fill your Southern graves. With Lincoln for our chieftain, We wear our country's stars, And rally round the brave old flag That bears the stripes and stars. Chorus We deem our cause most holy, We know we're in the right, And twenty million freemen Stand ready for the fight. Our pride is fair Columbia, No stain her beauty mars, On her we'll raise the brave old flag That bears the stripes and stars. Chorus And when this war is over, We'll each resume our home, And treat you still as brothers, Where ever you may roam. We'll pledge the hand of friendship, And think no more of war, But dwell in peace beneath the flag That bears the stripes and stars. Chorus Thanks for the great links--savers all, habu (AKA "Is my name is legion?").

I think there's a case to be made for banning partisan politics at universities if this is what leftists are going to do, and start ruining themselves over their political viewpoints. First, here's a starting report from the Fredricksburg Free Lance-...
