We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I understand Algore is already looking at the possibility of sponsoring a world wide hold-your-breath day.
When asked about the fact that the CO2 expelled by humans aids tree growth he responded that if we could slow down tree growth that fewer would be available to harvest, thus saving the spotted owl and the trees. When further asked that did he know that trees and plants produce oxygen he said, "And that's the problem, that's the very thing that we are polluting. Without it we wouldn't have anything to pollute would we?"
NJ...ditto. No more playing footsie with the Kyoto crowd. It is time to pull out all the stops. Everyone involved in this tour had better be covering all their CO2 emmisions with CERs purchased from China or Russia. AND no more private jets for the performers and/or the sponsors. The jet set can cut emmisions drastically by flying commercial. And then maybe the airlines will quit treating the rest of us like cattle.
I copied the following post about algore and co from sda.
-They have timed this to be a two year campaign leading into the US presidential campaign...There will be British elections, Canadian elections, US elections, French elections, Japanese elections and likely an Australian elections.
Get green initiatives going in those populations and it becomes unstoppable....this is the push, hence why there is NO DEBATE, all opponents are croneys, crazy or idiots.
This is a cordinated political campaign to push a point of view, make no mistake. Very smart, very slick, very powerful and very dangerous....partially because if they are wrong (my bet) then when it becomes clear the evidence doesnt support the conclusion where does the credibility of science go. The abuse of science cuts to a fundamental value that has propelled humanity to better itself.
I dont mean to become shrill but here is the problem, the way the case has been made they had better be right. Being incorrect does 2 things, ruins economies and drives us back to junk science and superstition reigning supreme.
Once again, this is a co-ordinated campaign, it is pretty clear, which in and of itself isnt bad. But it isnt being seen or reported that way.
Resistance is required for 24 to 36 months more. The campaign as a full throated yell cannot be sustained.
I agree, Patina. The campaign's pure-political aspect is camouflaged by the question of the truth or falseness of man-made global-warming itself. The moral insult--the hostile, aggressive assertion that the question is settled and the US Gov't must act NOW--perks along there in the shadows, unasked, unseen even.
Every British teen to see Gore's An Inconvenient Truth
Friday, February 2, 2007
The British government will send a copy of Al Gore's film about global warming, An Inconvenient Truth, to every secondary school in the country, the U.K. environment minister announced Friday.
The announcement, made after an opposition MP suggested sending the film to every home in the country, comes the same day a panel of the world's top scientists issued a new report saying global warming is a man-made phenomenon.
Environment Minister David Miliband said An Inconvenient Truth would be sent to every school as part of an educational pack about climate change aimed at British teens.
