We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Bomb Fatigue and Battle Fatigue

Baghdad bombing update. Who is the enemy? Once a month I feel like saying "screw them all." Won't be ready for civilization for 200 years. And this will not help very much: Gateway.

But how dare I feel "fatigue"? This war hasn't changed my life one bit.

Watching the photographs of American soldiers killed in Iraq yesterday ( with a kid who became too upset to stay in the room,) I felt the same way about a bunch of savages who will kill our people as we try to keep them from killing each other... It has changed our family's life, even with none of us overseas. Kids hear me talking with a friend who is worrying about two boys there, and watch me grit my teeth not to deck a PC acquaintance who says something scathing about American "bullies" in uniform...Endless discussions. My youngest praying each night for our troops and for one from our church. And we're nobodies, God only knows what it's like for the people there.

I think as you go through life (I'm gonna make an assumption here that you're in your 30's) you will find that this war, as others you will see do have an effect on your life.
Yeah, your immediate orbit here in the States may seem to be the same, the diurnal rhythm clicking along , but you are changing.
In the future you will not see war the same, you will recognise many of the arguements and you will formulate a
persönliche Weltansicht,personal worldview, that will have been influenced by each day previously lived.
And through the outcomes of the arguments you hear the proof of history will separate the truth from the theory.

In my day the Domino effect in SE.Asia was a reason often sited for fighting in Vietnam. That and the containment of the Soviet Union. Well,afetr Vietnam fell 3 million people died in Cambodia, Laos went totally Pathet Lao but those proofs weren't broadcast by the MSM. But we knew. The Soviets were bleed and we knew.
So you are being effected. The events of tomorrow will be filtered by the events of today forever in your life and the difference will be your knowledge and understanding of the difference between bull shit and truth.

I meant that it hasn't affected my personal life or my daily life. No personal sacrifice or pain, or even inconvenience.

Does it matter a great deal to me? Of course. I consider signing up all the time, and maybe one of these days I will.

Yes, I understand. My point is it will haunt you in the years to come, for you are informed and will, no doubt remain that way throughout your life.
And it will be that way whether you serve or don't serve. I will say this. I joined the Marine Corps at the height of the Vietnam War when my fraternity brothers and most on college campuses were against it.
Well you have no doubt read what Ronald reagan said of the Marines.

I don't think there is a Marine hidden inside of me. But I have no doubt that the US Army could find something useful for me to do.
