Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, January 30. 2007Tues. Morning LinksMoscow Mayor terms gay parade "Satanic." via Drudge. Why married people don't want sex. Dr. Helen LaShawn reminds us of an important piece by Walter Williams - Bogus Rights Color photos from the Depression Era. Very cool. (h/t, Done with Mirrors) Taking offense is offensive. Indeed it is, and hostile and manipulative too. Am Thinker. A quote:
The new Battleground Poll shows a conservative America. Intell Cons. The anti-war march. Old folks, reminiscing about 1968. Some people never grow up. (h/t, Instapundit) Quite pathetic, really.

Bleary eyed, just got up first thoughts.
The poll is good news, but as Mark Twain reminded us there's " lies, damn lies, and statistics" If the nation were so conservative the Democrats would be much weaker. AND the greatest problem with conservatism is it's nature. It is no active but reactive. Never on the offense but always on the defense. When was the last time you saw a group of 250,000 placard weilding, hopped up, demanding bull horn equiped conservatives?.........yeah me too, like never. Often times even getting them to sign a petition against something like "evil". Nope they blog now and listen to alpha conservative ranters, but you can't get them in the streets, and in the street makes news. A nice 2 million conservative march on DC as the Cherry Blosssums spring forth would send a damn better message than a poll. But conservatives don't do that. I say we rumble with the fascist liberals on the DC Mall at High Noon Dr Helen on married people and sex. Here's the story.
First couple of years it's sex on the dining room table, in the shower, on the sofa and chair, kichen etc. Four/five times a day Years roll by and it's sex in the bed only, the newness of the human sexual response of your mate imprinted deeply in your brain ..nothing new or exciting. By the fifteenth year the sex has turned to each partner passing the other in the hallway giving each other the finger and a hearty "Fuck You" Then the great menopause and the total disinterest in sex by the female. The menopause sex withdrawl is also reinforced by years of disgust with living with a MAN, the pigs. The American Thinker article is , as always, first rate. Selwyn Duke hits another three bagger....a great read. here's what some of the dailies are saying.
American Thinker & S. Duke suck ..L.A. Times S.Duke & American Thinker suck...N.Y. Times American Thinker=Hitler's Goebbels ..Washington Post Well, that Dr. Helen thing was the most depressing thing I've ever read. Just getting ready to retreat to the convent myself...why bother with marriage, after all that? And here I always thought it was all my fault and that I was uniquely a troll....Will show it to my unmarried daughters and they will probably go into the convent with me....
Microsoft will unveil it's new software Vista today. Revolutionary, not evolutionary it will no doubt spark others in the field to best it.
This will give rise to what Allen Greenspan, late of the Federal reserve called "irrational exhuberance" and begain a series of rate hikes that choked off seed money to new, innovative high tech companies. Venture capital dried up and a market drop ensued that turned peoples 401K's into 101k's within weeks. Greenspan was not the genius everyone thought he was for he killed a very promising era. Lets hope the Fed this time around doesn't try to over control the market forces. retriever...
At least allow your daughter to have meaningless, but orgasm filled sex for a few years prior to recommending the convent. They'll find their way there in due time. One wife, not enough. Need to ladder them by age, like bonds. More the merrier.
I tell them it isn't always meaningless but to be very wary of those dashing suitors...and to enjoy admiration whle their looks still draw attention. But am still a hopeless romantic and will be writing and loving somebody in my 90s...As woody Allen reminded us. We need the eggs. And he wasn't being literal. We rail at our disappointments in marriage but love is all we know of God. Good, bad and indifferent
Pippington Pappington Pop lll....pip, pip old boy. Never quite thought of a blonde ladder but it could be quite the thing.
This is my first rung on the blonde ladder. http://www.phun.org/specials/lingerie_babes/lingerie_babes_12.jpg That 'reminiscing 1968' essay is very good. Funny, dark, sarcastic.
Last sentence in Walter william's great piece:
"The real tragedy for our nation is that any politician who holds the values of liberty that our founders held would be soundly defeated in today's political arena." Jeez...that's a helluva damn thing to contemplate. We have daughters. The first thing my husband always tells them when they say they have a problem: What are the two things I have taught you? Life is not fair, and men are no damn good. Now which category does your problem fall into?"
The pity is that this whole "Anti-War" extravaganza has not been seen by the next generation, or even the most recent one. They will have no memory of these activities, no memory of the words, and therefore no clue as to how terribly wrong it is! No one taught "The Killing Fields" in university. By the way if you Google Clinton in and ask for graphics, then add Viet Nam in your request. You will see a picture of Pres. Clinton, while he was still president I believe. Standing witht he Viet Nam gov't leaders in a Viet Namese suit--I always knew he wanted to be in SO E Asia ;-)
Maybe 'The Killing Fields' ought to be re-released. I own that movie. That and "Dead Poets Society". They're the only two I own.
I was sort of depressed at first at Dr. Helen's 160 anonymous comments, but then I started to kind of laugh. It seemed that people were SO relieved to be able to talk about it. 'It' being the fact that great sex fades away. One guy said, "I will hang myself before I get married again." I did laugh at that. I suppose there are a gazillion observations to be made for unhappy marriages and why so many end in divorce, but I just think our personal evolution has not kept up with outside progress. Whoever expected to live with the same person more than childbearing years (15) before they croaked? Longevity and health gives us more time to get bored, and the world offers so many wonderful opportunities - even up until old age. I'll never get married again and my metric is simple: I hate a grouch in the morning. I wake up happy. That's enough to put the skids on any marriage thoughts for me. A lover-partner-who-goes-home-after? That's the way to go. And I'm not cooking. |
