We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Why do Libs seem to hate Christians? Auster spells out his First Law of Majority-Minority Relations. A quote:
The First Law states that because of the modern liberal belief in the moral and substantive equality of all peoples and cultures, the worse any minority or non-Western group really is, the worse the West must be made to appear, as the guilty cause of the non-Western groupís bad or dysfunctional behavior, or as simply bad in itself. If the worse is made to look better, and the better made to look worse, an apparent rough equality is maintained between them, and the liberal view survives.
Perhaps it is because religions of all casts have a history maked by the same venalities and turpitude the afflict mankind in general, except the religious hoo-do focuses these qualities on the individual while giving itself greater lattitude to pursue them instituationally and bestow a forgiveness on itself simultaneously.
Religions have histories resplendent with all the horrors of mankind. Christianity is the chosen foil in this country because it is better known, we are a Christian country and therefore the larger audience is addressed. It is easier for the common man to follow the arguement between Protestant and Catholic than it is between Shite and Sunni.
The latter to us is a parody of "Who's on First?"while the second can engender white hot heat between parties here more easily.
There is also a strong component of the atheistic nirvana Hegel and Marx promised which is still en vogue amongst the anointed press.
(short version of above, below, less classy, more sassy)
All the above plus the press is really fu*ked up as we all know.
