We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Good. What Jesus taught. But, in counting the cost, remember also this "4 Anyone who is among the living has hope [a] —even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!" Ecclesiastes 9:4 One should not impulsively throw it all away out of misguided Hollywood heroics. And certainly not throw away others.
Of course, we all love dogs more than Ecclesiastes did (you see those scrawny MiddleEastern mutts and it's harder to love them than our pampered retrievers and poodles other gorgeous water dogs---watery regions grow more beautiful dogs and people?? Ooops, as my kids would say, JUST KIDDING!)
We definitely seem to be living thru a time when most of our public figures subscribe to the Ecclesiastes philosophy. A few more dead lions needed? Because, of course, can't keep 'em dead. As any five year old who has been read the book and seen the film Narnia can tell you...
On King, he was a great preacher and there aren't enought of them. But he was just another miserable sinner and he was certainly not the saint we are all forced to publicly laud him. Being murdered earns him and his family my sympathy, but does not wash him clean or turn him into someone I use as a model for my kids. More a cautionary tale.
Don't howl, but I find Malcolm X a more interesting object of discussion with the young. Wicked, reformed, misguided, brilliant, inspiring, magnetic, visionary, etc. Someone who hates you and vilifies you often sees your weakness and can point you in a better direction than someone trying harder to get along with you and persuade you. I spent a long time researching the two when the rocks were young (for Moscow on the Charles courses,) so I know a little about the two...
