We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The enemy stands and fights. It's about time. Confed. Yank. Send in the Warthogs and maybe nail Al Sadr's pelt to the barn wall. I suggested to Confed. Yank that possibly the bad guys have their Beanie Baby collection hidden in that neighborhood.
One of the nice things about blogging is that while you're typing the other participants aren't interrupting. It also has the virture of allowing the poster to change the subject. This can be done with all manner of scholarly rhetorical devices, say a segue. Or you can just say 'Guided munitons have become a curse"..and then go for it.
Well guided munitions have become a curse. The expectation of no collateral damage is extremely high and is calculated prior to deciding whether or not to hit a target.
In other words if Stalin,Mao,Hitler, Genghis Khan and Norman lear were all standing in an open field, but next to them was an ancient totem or oblisk of the BatGuano sect of the Eastern Bedu Fly catchers some US General back in an air conditioned trailer would call off the strike. That's how bad it is.
We now hit one townhouse in Sadr City and the guy next door simply adjusts his satillite dish and continues to watch "I Dream of Genie" reruns. No fear , he knows we are pin pointing our targets..it's after the program he'll grab his AK-47 and go plinking at US soldiers and Marines.
Technology is working against us in a terrible way. Fighting in cities has been done for centuries with CLEAR winners emerging. Hue,Stalingrad, LA (ok that was a draw) but you get the picture. Sadr City should be wiped off the map, but the world knows we won't do that. OUR ENEMIES know we won't use our weapons. hell they could paine pictures of children on the sides of buildings and we wouldn't hit them if Satan was inside.
Up in the sky, different arena..good to have high tech-hit-first-time-you-shoot in aircraft vs aircraft but a better statement on the ground would be some naplam, phosphorus bombs, lots of iron raining helter skelter killing everyone in the bad area. yep technology has each soldier GPS'd, each round ID'd just ready for the Internationalist at the hague to file war crimes for unarmed goat shootings...it's really all very pitiful. And the perfumed princes back in the air conditioned command posts get decorated for what? It can't be leadership.
I agree with everything Habu said. Despite all of this, standing and fighting against American Soldiers and Marines for more than a few seconds is certain death. I hope the Hajis decide to stand.
I'm with 'ya 100%..come on out and let's get it on. Hell stay inside, let's just make damn sure during the "Surge" that certain parts of Iraq and other areas are going to look like landfills at days end.
Take the cuffs off our troops and let them do what our warriors sole objective should be WHEN IT IS EMPLOYED, and that is to KILL,MAIM,AND DESTROY our ememies.
Somehow I thought we had learned that?
How do we graduate service academy officers who want to build rapport and trust with the enemy? How many courses do they now take that involve winning "Hearts and Minds" as opposed to blowing your adversary to hell?
That does seem to be the problem. Maybe we have grown too civilized for brutality...but one consequence of that is becoming being prey for the brutal and uncivilized.
