We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A letter on trade and the economy to Lou Dobbs, via the CSM. (thanks, BL). Sometimes one wonders whether we just want scapegoats to focus on - or do Americans simply feel entitled to live entirely free of money worries?
Good essay in that the plain language clearly disconnects DC over-spending from the trade deficit. For some reason, the new populists (many of whom are currently being sworn in as committee chairpersons) want to blur these separate issues into an overall "incompetence" charge.
Whatever they wreck in order to cover their deceit will be expected to go unknown, as opportunity costs have no line on a balance sheet.
