Last night a "cold" front passed through the sweltering Northeast. Between 9 and 10:30, a line of angry thunderstorms made big noise and tree-crushing winds. Wonderful.
Those storms were competing with fireworks from all around, including local backyards, when there was a break in the lightning and rain. That battle went on for over an hour. I'd say Nature won.
NOAA has a childlike explanation of thunderstorms.
When heat waves occur (up here, meaning over 90 F/32 C for a few days) people over 60 can have trouble because the human body's thermoregulation becomes weaker. Heat Stroke is a medical emergency, and Heat Exhaustion should be attended to.
