Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

What the climate cultists could really use is an understanding of the ‘Science’ that they worship. Hint, it isn’t really science if you continue to manipulate data to force the dat to prove your hypothesis.
QUOTE: On Climate, Theory vs. Observation That's funny. Regarding the very first chart they show, they say, "When it comes to precipitation, it hasn’t caused anything", but the chart shows an increase over time. Climate science doesn't predict a dramatic rise in global precipitation, because precipitation is constrained by Earth’s energy balance. There will be some increase as shown in the chart. What climate science does predict is changes in regional distribution of precipitation, as well as (general) increases of precipitation in wet areas or seasons and decreases of precipitation in dry areas or seasons. The Sahel is greening so there goes your prediction.
Not that failed predictions ever stopped you freaks from embarrassing yourselves before. The entire climate issue comes down to two things:
1. We had a Little Ice Age. It was a natural, cyclical event that ended about 1850. The inevitable result of a "ice age" ending is... wait for it, warming! It has been "warming" since 1850. Surprisingly not a lot and in fact not enough yet to bring us back too the "normal" temp. 2. The grifters took advantage of this event to divert and acquire money and power. The "scientists" got jobs, tenure, raises by pursuing the AGW meme. Politicians got money and power and status. And a massive number of small time grifters got the crumbs and bits and pieces of money and power that overflowed the bigger grifters coffers. It was a win/win for everyone except the taxpayers. OneGuy: We had a Little Ice Age. It was a natural, cyclical event that ended about 1850.
The cyclical nature of global mean temperatures over that last 800,000 years or so is largely due to Milankovitch cycles. Milankovitch cycles cause changes in the incoming solar radiation in mid-to-high latitudes. This is amplified by natural feedbacks, primarily atmospheric water vapor and albedo. (Other influences include changes in solar activity and volcanism.) OneGuy: We had a Little Ice Age. It was a natural, cyclical event that ended about 1850. Saying the Little Ice Age ended is not a mechanism. The primary mechanism was the Milankovitch cycles, which cause changes in the incoming solar radiation in mid-to-high latitudes. OneGuy: Surprisingly not a lot Historically, it only takes a few degrees change to have a large impact on climate. OneGuy: and in fact not enough yet to bring us back too the "normal" temp. Normal is relative. What matters to humans is stability. Human civilization developed over a period of relative climate stability. The current rate of rapid global warming is anomalous for human civilization. The current rate of rapid global warming is a fantasy. It always depends on when you start the warming rate. Malthusians seem to never learn a thing as the sky is always falling.
Man- Before we claim something to be "anomalous" don't we first need to define or determine what is standard? What is then the standard/optimal rate of global warming/cooling for a beneficial effect on human civilization ?
Ulithi: Before we claim something to be "anomalous" don't we first need to define or determine what is standard?
Anomalous refers to the rate and magnitude of change in the Earth's global mean temperature since the development of human civilization. See Osman et al., Globally resolved surface temperatures since the Last Glacial Maximum, Nature 2021: “When compared with recent temperature changes, our reanalysis indicates that both the rate and magnitude of modern warming are unusual relative to the changes of the past 24 thousand years.” Uthili: What is then the standard/optimal rate of global warming/cooling for a beneficial effect on human civilization ? Humans do best in relative stability. Some climate change is natural, but the current warming is anomalous in rate and degree. Humans are highly-populated and dependent on areas that will be subject to rapid climate change. So, someone might says, “Well, move then.” But consider the social strains already entailed with current levels of migration. Humans can and will adapt. However, the sooner humans address the problem, the lower the economic disruption and the less damage to humanity’s natural inheritance. Also, keep in mind that the reason humans are so capable of adaptation, is that they can project and avoid the worst consequences, including the threat from anthropogenic global warming. Z-man: Anomalous is that which deviates from the standard, from the norm. 24 thousand years is a thin slice of the whole and to claim that within that time frame "the rate and magnitude of modern warming are unusual " might well indicate exactly that-i.e.they are merely "unusual". Unusual is not a synonym for catastrophic. Within our near ancestors time on this blessed orb there apparently have been unusual climate changes-Greenland was once green and the deserts were not always deserted; and yet human civ. seems to have marched onward if not always upward. One might possibly take Osman et al with less than a pound of salt if climatology could be somewhat more like the hard sciences instead of a cult's relative.
Ulithi: Unusual is not a synonym for catastrophic.
The difference in Earth's mean surface temperature between a glacial period and an inter-glacial period is about 6°C, so a difference of 3°C would be significant, especially considering the artificial rapidity of warming, and that Earth is already in an interglacial period. Ulithi: One might possibly take Osman et al with less than a pound of salt if climatology could be somewhat more like the hard sciences instead of a cult's relative. Handwaving is not an effective scientific argument. Z: Humans can and will adapt. Ulithi: and yet human civ. seems to have marched onward if not always upward. Then we are in agreement. That doesn't address "However, the sooner humans address the problem..." z-man ; ""{That doesn't address 'However, the sooner humans address the problem}"". Until there emerges greater consensus and viable data re "the problem" it might be wise to hold off enthusiasm for addressing the "problem" via solar geoengineering, stratospheric aerosol injection of sulfur dioxide, space sunshades, etc. . Of course private start ups are already testing these solutions because the profits will be enormous and the consequences of failure -be it financial or environmental- passed on to the public.

Uthili: Until there emerges greater consensus and viable data re "the problem"
American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS): “there is now a high degree of agreement among climate scientists that human-caused climate change is real.” National Academies of Science of Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, India, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States: “It is unequivocal that the climate is changing, and it is very likely that this is predominantly caused by the increasing human interference with the atmosphere.” NASA: “There is unequivocal evidence that Earth is warming at an unprecedented rate. Human activity is the principal cause.” Uthili: it might be wise to hold off enthusiasm for addressing the "problem" via solar geoengineering, stratospheric aerosol injection of sulfur dioxide, space sunshades, etc. . None of that is our position. Energy infrastructure has to be replaced 2-3 times per century, so replacing older infrastructure as it ages out with new technology will keep costs reasonable, and will allow economies to continue to grow and innovate during the transition. Economic growth is essential for the transition, as well as for allowing more of the world’s peoples to enjoy the fruits of modernity.

And the actual theft is already well over 100 trillion dollars. The 15 Trillion is only the climate part.
An unimaginable number already. And as Zachriel said, they need this to continue. Not so that they can actually help anyone - they wouldn’t be flying the Epstein class around in private jets to climate conferences if they actually believed “pteropods will be harmed!” Or whatever the current bullcrap is. It’s much simpler than that. They hate God, they hate you, they want you to die. And Zachriel is here to make sure they succeed. That’s basically it. Stock up on supplies. Read your bible. Build the church. Love your neighbors as yourselves. And keep a watchful eye for the wolves. They are inside already.

Interest on the national debt is eating a record 19% of federal revenue — and watchdog warns it will get worse
QUOTE: ]According to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB), interest costs consumed a record 3.25% of GDP and roughly 19% of all federal revenue in fiscal year 2025. If Treasury yields remain elevated at current levels — roughly 55 basis points above Congressional Budget Office projections across the yield curve — interest costs would grow 2.5-fold, climbing from $880 billion today to $2.5 trillion by 2036. That would push debt interest’s share of federal revenue to almost 30% — nearly triple its historical average over the past half-century. . . . By 2027, under the high-rate scenario, interest costs would overtake Medicare spending to become the second-largest government program — eclipsed only by Social Security. By 2036, the government would be spending nearly as much on interest as on Social Security’s entire retirement program. https://fortune.com/2026/05/27/national-debt-interest-payments-30-percent-revenue-bond-yields-crfb/ |
