We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6
This is not really "giving in secret," as Christ demanded, but they all deserve a plug for their good work. Here are the worthy groups to whom I am giving this year:
Worthy all. As an FYI - The Nature Conservancy got in a heap of trouble 2 years ago, selling donated land to board members and then accepting back the donation of a conservation easement, allowing a tax deduction to the board member. Not arms length transactions and there was an issue with value. Hopefully, they have learned their lesson(s).
We at DU are proud to accept donations from skeptical, politically centrist, capitalistic, New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Simply put, "Thank you." My Maine Christmas wreath just arrived, so my office here in Memphis has that wonderful, fresh evergreen odor, reminding me of days on the farm in the Catskills tramping through the snow to cut down a Christmas tree after a breakfast of pancakes and real maple syrup (the only way to go). Wishing everyone at Maggie's Farm a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you for supporting our wetlands and waterfowl conservation efforts in New England and North America.
