Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re NYC - I find it amusing how the folks looking for more and more money to finance their programs haven't figured out yet that the money can move away from their grasp.
And that they never seem to understand that just because THEY think the money's necessary doesn't mean that everyone else will agree. re NY Governor Kathy Hochul Now Basically Begging Wealthy People Who Fled the State to Come Back
In effect she is saying, "Please come back so we can steal your money." I can't see any billionaire so stupid as to not see through that plea. Indeed, it is insulting. Hochul is pathetic. It is a derisive LOL moment. "Voter ID has wide support. Why are Republicans struggling to pass it?"
Because the "Republican Party" is more or less equally split between MAGA Republicans and RINOs, and "voter ID" is HATED by the Deep State Swamp Creatures that run all the RINO candidates. People like Thune, McConnell, Muckkowski, Collins, and Tillis are DEEP Deep State creatures, who (like the Bush cabal) would rather that Trump LOSE than the Republicans might win. The SAVE act has overwhelming support of both dem and repub voters. It looks like a no-brainer to pass it, but it doesn't look like it will happen.
Why? They naysayers in the Senate do not believe they will pay a price at the polls for their actions. You're right; the RINOs in the Senate don't think that the VOTERS will remember this 6 months or 2.5 years from now. They think that they can lie, get re-elected, and continue the grift. At SOME point, they'll fail - but since RINOs failing might mean that Democraps win, they don't believe we'd do that.
feeblemind: The SAVE act has overwhelming support of both dem and repub voters.
That is incorrect. While majorities of both parties support voter ID, there is much less support for the SAVE Act itself. related:
Michigan reported 8.2 million registered voters in 2024. Michigan's voting-age citizen population was 7.6 million in 2024. https://x.com/Shilohmarx/status/2034767050888159281 feeblemind: Michigan reported 8.2 million registered voters in 2024. Michigan's voting-age citizen population was 7.6 million in 2024.
That's not atypical. People die or move away. People rarely change their registration status in a departure state. Under the National Voter Registration Act, all states have a process to purge older registration, but that can take several years. That's not evidence of fraudulent registrations. That does not address your claim that "The SAVE act has overwhelming support of both dem and repub voters." The Harvard poll has support at 71%. Landslide.
By the way, you never answered my question. If you are, as you claim, an angelic entity who controls memory, is it really fair to be arguing with us mortals on a blog? I mean, if you can just alter memories capriciously then whats the point? Please explain your supernatural powers in detail.

Twisted logic ya got there, kiddieZ.
Wouldn’t it be preferable to legitimately update voter roles before an election?

Rusty: The Harvard poll has support at 71%.
The Harvard poll does not show "overwhelming" support by Democrats. Results of polling depend on how the poll question is framed. Most people do support voter ID and restricting the vote to citizens, so when asked in that context, people support the bill. However, after negative aspects of the bill are discussed, such as making mail-in voting more difficult and the problem many people will have registering in person, support drops dramatically. In other words, support for some provisions of the SAVE Act doesn't equate to support for all of its provisions. Rusty: By the way, you never answered my question. Because it was irrelevant to the topic. Rusty: If you are, as you claim, an angelic entity who controls memory... We'll entertain your question this once: We make no claim to any special powers, knowledge, or expertise.

To the contrary, your powers of obfuscation are amazing.
And 50% democrat support for a controversial Trump agenda item is overwhelming to me.

'Why Is the Media Rooting for Iran?'
Because its citizens have dark-colored skin. There are a number of issues regarding the vaccines for children. We older folks remember well when we got the polio vaccine and it was a literal miracle celebrated widely. Vaccines that followed were more or less the same story, great victories over serious diseases. But at some point many new vaccines were only mildly effective against illnesses that were only mildly problematic. And yet the list of mandated vaccines for children grew to an almost unrealistic number of injections. Today it is questionable if the sheer volume of injections for babies and toddlers does more harm than good. Why not just a dozen or so "essential" vaccinations, you know, the ones that actually work and let common sense and a parental/doctor relationship decide the need for the others?
And then there is the covid vaccine debacle. We now know that literally everyone got covid and the vaccine didn't prevent getting the disease or spreading the disease and yet even though the "experts" knew this they mandated the vaccine. Why would they do that??? Never mind! The fact that they did it and did it with such ease and vigor should alert us all to the risk of allowing ANY mandates on vaccines. It would seem that all power will be exploited and the public be damned. They will literally put you in jail for questioning their authority to jab you. We must remove that authority or more correctly that belief that they have that authority because they have shown that they WILL misuse it on a whim. They will do it again! The vaccine injury problem will not go away. Another recent study shows that children suffered Covid mRNA vaxx injuries.
