Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re End Of The Endangerment Finding: Will "Net Zero" Ever Get Back On Track In The U.S.?
This is a good question for the betting markets. My crystal ball says the Dems will indeed try to resurrect it when they they retake the presidency. Global warming won't stop because of political winds.
However, there is a tragedy of the commons dynamic. It is often more profitable to cheat than to cooperate. Controlling pollution (of all sorts) can be more expensive than dumping it into the air or nearest water stream. So, polluters can gain a competitive advantage over non-polluters. Even if non-polluters voluntarily try to limit their pollution, competitive pressures will drive them out of the market. That's why conventional pollution was addressed with regulation. However, noting the dynamic doesn't mean the outcome is inevitable. There are some direct economic advantages to green technology. Countries will eventually find it is to their mutual advantage to address global warming, and those countries that are best prepared will prosper. We're still coming out of an ice age. Let's hope it keeps warming or we're in trouble. Warm weather and CO2 are great for crops.
The polar bears seem to be thriving as well. Let's hope we can hold off the next ice age for a little while longer.
Grok, list some of the direct benefits of increased CO2 in the atmosphere.
[b[Here are some key scientifically supported benefits: • Enhanced photosynthesis and plant growth • Increased crop yields and agricultural productivity • Improved water-use efficiency and drought resistance • Greater overall biomass and a lusher biosphere • Boost to global net primary productivity (NPP) and carbon uptake • Enhanced growth in drylands and arid regions • Potential mitigation of yield losses from heat and drought • Increased belowground biomass and root growth • Historical and experimental context for optimization • Stronger terrestrial carbon sink and enhanced global photosynthesis [/b]

Rusty: Grok, list some of the direct benefits of increased CO2 in the atmosphere.
As Grok would tell you—if you bothered to ask—anthropogenic CO2 is warming the planet. There are positives and negatives due to increased CO2. Per Grok, global warming will lead to extreme weather events, ocean acidification, and sea-level rise; while warming of more than 2°C will have a net negative effect on agriculture. But learning that would require you wanting to learn and a willingness to confront information contrary to your preconceptions.

[I]Grok, do humans thrive in warmer climate, or in an ice age climate?[I/]
Humans have historically fared better in warmer interglacial climates (like our current Holocene) than in full ice age/glacial periods Why do progressives hate humanity so much? The earth has been cooling for 11,000 years as we head for the next ice age but progressives want to speed up the process which will increase human suffering just so they can keep their beachfront property. It's incredibly narcissistic, short-sighted, anti-human, and frankly just evil and dark.

Rusty: Grok, do humans thrive in warmer climate, or in an ice age climate? So you won't bother to challenge your preconceptions in order to reach a better understanding. Nor did you bother to respond to the substance of our previous comment. QUOTE: Grok, would humans thrive better in a world without anthropogenic global warming or one with anthropogenic global warming of 2-3°C over the next few decades? Grok: Humans would thrive better in a world without anthropogenic global warming. Rusty: The earth has been cooling for 11,000 years as we head for the next ice age The next interglacial was not expected until several millennia in the future.

Small note: LLM-AIs (including Grok) tend to be 'agreeable'. In other words, AI will adjust its views to fit the user. If you have a log-in account, this problem can be very pronounced. Even if you command the AI to not be agreeable, the command will weaken over time.
QUOTE: Reasoning Rules (suggested): - Do not take positions for social alignment or contrarian display; favor independent judgment. - Maintain candid, reasoned analysis. - Avoid reflexive agreement or disagreement. - Do not assume approval; ask when intent is ambiguous. - Prioritize clarity over reassurance.

Which only demonstrates how incredibly short sighted, selfish, and evil you are. We have a chance to prevent the biggest catastrophe mankind will experience - the coming ice age - and all you can think about is "muh beachfront property!"

You suggest damaging human society over the next several decades to prevent a possible glaciation 10,000 to 50,000 years in the future? (Again, you haven't responded substantively, even though we have addressed each of your points.)

"You suggest damaging human society..."
Typical Satanic inversion. Sorry, you satanists have no credibility when you predict things like the arctic would be ice free by 2015. Your fear mongering simply doesn't work anymore. It is you satanists who want to limit power production for the poorest of people. It is you satanists who want to stop the greening of the earth. It is you satanists who want to kill food production and eliminate beef production. It is you satanists who literally would rather the elderly freeze to death than address real power consumption needs. Who is damaging society here, satanist?

And note that those hundreds of Chinese coal burning plants are pouring tons of pollutants into the air. Where is all that Chinese 'high tech' being applied? On the electric consumption side and not on the electric production side of the economy. That happens when you have little petroleum.
Still fighting climate change in California.
California imports costly gas as companies flee, but lawmakers remain committed to climate policy https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/energy/california-imports-expensive-gas-companies-flee-lawmakers-remain-committed Satanists enjoy punishing the poor, the defenseless, and the weak. They get a sick thrill from it.
If they can make it so you have to choose between food and heating your house in winter, they pat each other on the back and start planning how they can inflict even more pain next winter. Something more to chew on - For those who may think Zachriel is just a mildly annoying, emotionless spergy autist who likes to repeat MSNOW talking points all day to strangers - the truth of the matter is that, well, he hates you. Hates your guts. And he hates you in a way that most of us can't even wrap our civilized heads around. He may pretend to be reasonable, enlightened and scientific, but if he and his kind are ever allowed real power in this world (think Bolshevik Revolution, Mao's Great Leap) Zachriel will be the guy digging the mass grave with a backhoe and shoving you into it. It's hard to fathom, but this is what has happened over and over again the last century and I think we can all see where this current century is heading.
Just something to think about as we listen to his latest doomsday predictions. If he really believes the world is about to be destroyed by people like the folks here on this website, then his mind will certainly condone your elimination since you are, in his words, "damaging human society" simply by living normally. If he doesn't actually believe his own doomsday predictions (he doesn't) then he is just lying to gain authority and credibility with his fellow bolsheviks. And if 50 or 60 million of us have to perish, well... does anyone actually think Zach will shed a tear? No. He will be the one that will turn you all in for thought crimes. He will testify against us all at our mock trials, and he will volunteer to administer the punishment himself. Just something to keep in mind. Rusty: Hates your guts.
This is off-topic, but we will respond just this once. We don't hate you. We don't hate humanity. We don't hate. In fact, we're rather fond of the humans. Call it a peccadillo if you like. Or the second commandment. We don't believe in doomsday. We don't believe in utopia. Global warming by itself will not cause the end of humanity or even the end of human civilization. Humans will likely muddle along as they always have. That doesn't mean global warming isn't a problem or that it won't cause economic and social disruption—it will. The sooner humans effectively respond to the problem, the lower the costs, economic, social, and ecological, including permanent damage to humanity's shared natural inheritance. Humans built up the current energy infrastructure over the last century or two. But the entire infrastructure gets replaced every half century or so. Just replacing the existing infrastructure as it turns over with advanced green technology will bring about most of the change without a huge amount of additional upfront economic costs. Economic growth is essential to allow world's people to enjoy the fruits of industrialized modernity, but also to fuel technological advancement and humanity's adaptation to and mitigation of global warming. If you want to talk about anthropogenic global warming, then we'd be happy to engage that topic.

Like I said earlier, you satanists have already lost all credibility.
From calling it "the one challenge that could completely end human civilization." to predicting the end of the polar ice cap by 2015 to the threats that 2016 was the "tipping point" from which there would be no return. We've endured your fake temperature data, your alarmism and your email scandals. The constant threats. The incessant demands for more of our tax dollars. We've watched as satanic elites fly private jets by the thousands to "climate conferences" in Dubai, Glasgow, Paris, and Brazil where they cleared rainforest to make room for the 50,000 attendees and their drug fueled sex parties. It's gotten to the point where you are just laughing at us as we all watch helplessly. We've spent $25T that we don't have and now the Paris Accord people are demanding another $4-5T per year that we don't have. You have siphoned off the wealth of nations and destroyed the future wealth of our children. All for a lie that the satanic elites obviously don't believe or they would be having these conferences via Zoom rather than jetting off to exotic locales in big carbon burning jets. You aren't fond of humanity. You've never even acknowledged your own humanity. Every word you regurgitate has only one purpose behind it - to deceive, to obfuscate, and to lead humanity down the path to destruction. Luckily, you aren't fooling anybody around here. You do the will of your father, the father of lies. And it is plain to see.

A critique of liberal beliefs about Canada, highlighting economic and social challenges faced by American migrants.
QUOTE: Liberals always threaten to move to Canada if they don't get their way. . . . Well, a few hearty souls have done so, and it hasn't worked out so well for them. Let's also note that Canada is where progressives have run everything for decades now. They're the model government American leftists point to as an example of how to do things right. Yet it's even less affordable and more difficult to survive than the United States. https://hotair.com/david-strom/2026/02/23/in-the-annals-of-unselfawareness-this-plea-is-at-the-top-n3812176 re Out of Nowhere,' Canada Became Poorer Than Alabama
LOL They put Trudeau and his cronies in power for how many years and then are surprised at this result? LOL. I guess it is just "bad luck" that their economy went south. I suppose they can always blame Trump.
