We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Baby aspirin for air flights?


Pulmonary emboli, from from deep vein clots, are serious if not fatal.


Because aspirin reduces platelet aggregation, it would seem sensible to take 81 mg before long sedentary periods. However, studies do not confirm that.


I do it anyway.

Many people die in their late 50's and 60's because of blood clots. Many more suffer serious medical complications for the same reason. It is far safer to take the baby aspirin then it is to not take it.

Take a standard 325mg aspirin, not a baby aspirin. Aspirin's not poison folks.

Paleo's right . A single 81 mg aspirin won't do much - it's only effective if taken daily .
Personally, I take two standard aspirin before a long flight - both for blood thinning and to preemptively treat the muscle and lower back soreness I get from prolonged sitting .

I suffer from Deep Vein Thrombosis in one leg, for which my doctor has me take one daily 81mg aspirin. For flights and long car drives he has me take Xeraltro 2 hours before the flight/car drive. To not overdo things (you can thin the blood too much and risk bleeding out from a paper cut) I need to stop aspirin the day before and day of taking Xeraltro.
