Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"40% of Young Women Want to Leave America."
This is the symptom. The problem is our education system. There is no country and no people in the world who are not the result of violent or terrible acts of their country or their people in the past. But, for political reasons it is desirable to lower the self esteem and pride or Americans and this is how they do it. They are doing it because America is too strong and they want to weaken it. Ask why and you will understand what is going on. That 40% are ignorant, not in an intent to be insulting but simply in the true meaning of the word. And because they are ignorant they are perfect useful idiots. I am 82 YO. I remember when JFK was elected and my high school teachers were excited to see such a wonderful man become president. I remember when he was first seduced to put soldiers into Vietnam and why he wanted to. I believe he sincerely wanted to free the Vietnamese and to restrain China and Russia. I think, that before his assassination he came to realize that his advisors and the bureaucracy was using him and if he had lived the Vietnam story would be very different. But Johnson was a professional politician and as dirty as they come and he wanted the Vietnam war. And now 55,000+ young American men dead for what? I had friends who went there and never returned. For what? You have to be old enough to remember the national feeling about Vietnam when it started to understand that the useless idiots were all in. It was only when Nixon was elected that they turned against Vietnam and only because they wanted Nixon to fail. Sound familiar? OneGuy: But Johnson was a professional politician and as dirty as they come and he wanted the Vietnam war.
The impetus for war was primarily coming from the political right, including Goldwater, the 1964 Republican candidate for President. By coopting the issue, Johnson muted attacks on him as being weak on communism. This led to his landslide victory that year. OneGuy: It was only when Nixon was elected that they turned against Vietnam and only because they wanted Nixon to fail. Sound familiar? "LBJ, how many kids you killed today," obviously came before Nixon's presidency. By that time, the American public opinion was slowly moving against the war in Vietnam. In 1968, Nixon promised peace with honor: "I pledge to you that we shall have an honorable end to the war in Vietnam." The White House tapes revealed that Nixon didn't believe South Vietnam could survive, and there is evidence Nixon subverted a peace deal in 1968 in order to undermine Johnson and to win the presidential election. I just finished lunch and was reminded of man's greatest invention. My wife wanted potato soup from Safeway for lunch and it's a 50/50 chance that they will have it, they did. So while she served up two bowls I said I would look for bread. "Look" because often I'm disappointed; day old or just unattractive French bread or Baguette. And sure enough I get to the bread section and there is one loaf of French bread and a very tired hard old baguette sitting there. Frustrated I'm about to keep searching hopelessly and one of the cooks passes by pushing a cart of fresh bread. And we're off. I can't catch up all I can do is follow until she stops and starts loading a rack near the cashiers. I ask if I can take one from the cart and she replies of course... and it is still hot!! Oh my god, not just warm but hot. We quickly pay for it and get home where I consume half the loaf with real butter. Oh my god! It is so good.
Bread, is man's greatest invention. You could argue cheese or even butter too but IMHO it's bread hands down. But what about the steam engine or cars or even computers? But it was farming and being able to store food and prepare that food that makes everything that follows possible. If you are out hunting all day avoiding a pack of hyenas trying to shoot an arrow into some game you don't have time to tinker with bits of metal to make a steam engine or a car or a space ship. No! It's bread and of course the grain that allows you to make bread that can be stored forever if need be. Potatoes or beets too of course and chicken and rabbits but even then you have to acknowledge that without bread you couldn't stay in one place and have the time to plant those things or raise those animals. Disagree if you will but I need to take a nap now and dream of supper with that same bread toasted with jam on top... Because of the context, it was one of the great loaves of your life.
"After all the loaves of my life After all the loaves of my life I'll be thinking of you, And wondering why." Kevin mccreavy: As great as bread is, beer is better. Just saying
When they uncovered the residences of the people who built the pyramids, they discovered bakeries and breweries. The pyramids weren't built of stone, but of bread and beer. ꜱᴜᴘᴇʀ-ꜰᴀꜱᴛ ᴍᴏɴᴇʏ-ᴍᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴏɴʟɪɴᴇ ᴊᴏʙ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ꜰʟᴏᴏᴅꜱ ʏᴏᴜʀ ʙᴀɴᴋ ᴀᴄᴄᴏᴜɴᴛ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴄᴀꜱʜ ᴇᴠᴇʀʏ ᴡᴇᴇᴋ. ʙʏ ᴡᴏʀᴋɪɴɢ ᴊᴜꜱᴛ 2 ʜᴏᴜʀꜱ ᴀ ᴅᴀʏ ᴀꜰᴛᴇʀ ᴄᴏʟʟᴇɢᴇ, ɪ ᴍᴀᴅᴇ $17,529 ʟᴀꜱᴛ ᴍᴏɴᴛʜ. ɪ ʜᴀᴅ ᴢᴇʀᴏ ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴇɴᴄᴇ ᴡʜᴇɴ ɪ ꜱᴛᴀʀᴛᴇᴅ, ᴀɴᴅ ɪɴ ᴍʏ ꜰɪʀꜱᴛ ᴍᴏɴᴛʜ, ɪ ᴇᴀꜱɪʟʏ ᴇᴀʀɴᴇᴅ $11,854. ᴛʜɪꜱ ᴊᴏʙ ɪꜱ ɪɴᴄʀᴇᴅɪʙʟʏ ᴇᴀꜱʏ ᴛᴏ ᴅᴏ, ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴇɢᴜʟᴀʀ ɪɴᴄᴏᴍᴇ ɪꜱ ꜰᴀɴᴛᴀꜱᴛɪᴄ. ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴊᴏɪɴ ʀɪɢʜᴛ ɴᴏᴡ? ᴊᴜꜱᴛ ᴠɪꜱɪᴛ ᴛʜɪꜱ ᴡᴇʙᴘᴀɢᴇ

If they would move, they would find they have it better here than anywhere else in the world. If the young men could identify the 10% of women they think should leave, I think we should make a deal.
California has spent $128 billion on the high speed rail project, so far. No high speed rail yet, not even close. There was never an demand for high speed rail between LA and San Francisco. If this ever gets completed it is likely that the train will make that record time trip empty. The actual cost for a ticket will be so high no one will be able to afford it. But no worries, I don't think it will ever be finished and I don't think that they ever intended it to be finished. It was always a money laundering scheme for politicians to gain power and to steal money from the tax payer. It gave various unions very high paying jobs which in turn funneled a lot of money into union coffers which was used to steal election. It purchased materials from favored suppliers who in turn made kickbacks to politicians and staffers. It is the biggest boondoggle in California history. Please, will the federal government please audit this black hole before it swallows California?
