Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: Marco Rubio Declares War On The Global Censors
Possibly true on all counts. Now insert the names Biden, Obama, and Clinton into the same sentences.
We didn't start the fire. Trump is using back the same tactics that were thrown at him, and all Republicans back to Dewey, a moderate who Truman called a fascist. I very much don't like that. I wish it were high road all the time for us. But I am absolutely not going to lose a minute's sleep over it either. Assistant Village Idiot: Possibly true on all counts.
Be happy to provide support for each claim. Assistant Village Idiot: Now insert the names Biden, Obama, and Clinton into the same sentences. Hmm. They don't seem to have strong parallels. Notably, the one example you provide is flawed. Assistant Village Idiot: Trump is using back the same tactics that were thrown at him, and all Republicans back to Dewey, a moderate who Truman called a fascist. Truman calling his political opponent a "front man" for fascism is not using 'the organs of government' to attack private speech—even if you rightly argue it was unfair and unwise. It was clearly political speech. You might even go further back to Jefferson who was viciously attacked in pamphlets of fathering a child with his slave. Assistant Village Idiot: We didn't start the fire. No, but Trump is an arsonist. Z: a "front man" for fascism is not using 'the organs of government' to attack private speech
In the actual speech, Truman warns of an economic elite that uses fear of foreigners and minorities (such as Catholics, Jews, and Negros) to concentrate political and economic power, and that he saw his opponent as an enabler. Please comment on attorney dismissal & disbarment threats progressive elements have been using since 2020 election . For simply advising the conservative side re: possible legal tactics.
Think Cleta Mitchell long-time, highly regarded attorney at Foley & Lardner. Expelled by her partners, ostensibly for political positions/activities butI have heard from reliable sources that major clients threatened to leave Foley if she remained. The threat of reduced fees works whether from an antagonistic government or a major client - the coercion works the same. That's private behavior. Louie Miller: The threat of reduced fees works whether from an antagonistic government or a major client - the coercion works the same. The distinction is that people have the right to voice their opinions (even if you might argue unfairly), while undue government coercion against free speech is a violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The universities are finally getting a taste of the 'Hillsdale' treatment.
There is a difference between protest and riot. There is a difference between free speech and inciting a riot. As of 2023, 74% of Brussels' population is of foreign background, compared to a European average of 10%.
Wow! One would think the immigrants would wield substantial political power, at least in Brussels? Do they? Or do they not bother to vote? Brussels sounds like it is fast becoming a basket case. Is Brussels a microcosm of Belgium? Is the rest of the nation close behind? BTW, I believe London is about as heavily populated with foreigners as Brusssels. feeblemind: As of 2023, 74% of Brussels' population is of foreign background, compared to a European average of 10%.
That compares a city to nations. Cities tend to be centers of immigration. About 35% of the population of Brussels has a foreign background, including from other European countries. About 23% of the population are Muslim. feeblemind: Brussels sounds like it is fast becoming a basket case. Brussels is a primary node of the global economic system, an Alpha Global City. Brussels is the center of the Belgian economy, which is highly developed, high income, and with high life expectancy. The obvious outcome for DEI cities is that they are deconstructing due to having very few common cultural traits. The most obvious common cultural trait is grifting which is not affordable even for first world countries. They all slide into multicultural ghettos... not much of a future for 'alpha' cities.
Note the alpha cities in the US that continue their slide into bankruptcy and dysfunction. Justice Kavanaugh to Second Amendment: We're Really Busy Now, Come Back In A Year Or Two
QUOTE: On December 1, 2020, the Maryland ban on AR-15s was challenged. The plaintiffs lost in the District Court and before the Fourth Circuit. In August 2024, a cert petition was filed in Snope v. Brown. The petition sat in purgatory for nearly a year with fourteen relists. Today, the Supreme Court finally put the petition out of its misery and denied cert. SCOTUS continues to drift left. https://reason.com/volokh/2025/06/02/justice-kavanaugh-to-second-amendment-were-really-busy-now-come-back-in-a-year-or-two/ Spam filter doesn't like the live link. "Drifts." Yes. It seems to happen repeatedly, likely because of the DC company they keep. This is why we need to keep renewing originalism into the pipeline on the other end.
Re: Mamet. I would call Tom Stoppard our greatest living playwright in English, but Mamet suits me fine. Stoppard also became more conservative the farther along he went.
Where have all the Jews gone?
They are fleeing from what the vast majority of them voted for. If not for Jewish support, it is unlikely Hitler would have ever won office. As a people, they simply are way too short sighted in spite of 3000 thousand years of history. |
