Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re Germany's Stern Magazine Calls For Conscription Of Young People
QUOTE: Stern Magazine is calling for mass conscription of German youths to join the army, including to ensure the defense of “freedom and diversity.” Will Germans fight for the “New Germany?” Of course, the “New Germany” does not exactly have people lining up to fight for it, and that is a real problem for the establishment. . . . A new Forsa poll shows that only 17 percent of Germans are willing to take up arms and die for their country. . . . It is also worth noting that despite Germans being called to “defend diversity,” the cover of Stern is remarkably lacking in diversity. It’s two White people, a boy and girl. Considering Germany’s youth are becoming more and more diverse, one would think that it would have been the perfect opportunity to feature a Black or Arab person. Go to any clothing store in Germany or any other Western country, and the classic motif of the Black male paired with the White female is ubiquitous. However, as those on the right often point out, when the threat of real wars start, the White males suddenly start appearing more and more frequently in the recruiting ads of the armed forces. So . . . Is the German ruling class afraid to give military training to young immigrant men? Or are white people just worth less to the ruling class? Or perhaps under the veneer of "diversity" the ruling class sees white people as smarter and more competent, thus making their military units more effective? QUOTE: 17 percent of Germans are willing to take up arms and die for their country. Gallup found that 57% of Germans would be willing to fight if Germany were involved in a war, more than the United States at 41%. Notably, a quarter of Americans have indicated they could take up arms against the United States. Notably, a quarter of Americans have indicated they could take up arms against the United States.
I believe that is indicative of how deep the political divide is in this country. I don't think it is going to get better anytime soon. QUOTE: only 17 percent of Germans are willing to take up arms and die for their country. Your source is a bit misleading. In the Stern poll, about 38% of Germans said they would probably or definitely defend Germany if faced with a foreign threat. The comparison to the United States, provided above, helps provide the context. If you start with misleading statistics, your conclusions will be unfounded. feeblemind: I believe that is indicative of how deep the political divide is in this country. Quite so. re So Milley was running the whole Ukraine war with Russia without telling the public -report
Well, I am surprised this didn't leak out. Left unsaid is whether Milley took it upon himself to do this or if he had the blessing of Biden's string pullers? One wonders how badly this will damage long term relations with Russia? They weren't good to start with. feeblemind: So Milley was running the whole Ukraine war with Russia without telling the public -report
That the United States was providing technical and military assistance to the Ukrainians to fend off Russian aggression isn't news. The effect has been to prevent Russia from toppling Ukraine, degraded their military capacity, and damaged their reputation. However, Russia will remain a threat as long as Putin and the oligarchs maintain power. feeblemind: One wonders how badly this will damage long term relations with Russia? Obama attempted to coax Russia "to come in out of the cold," but Russia repudiated cooperation, invaded a sovereign nation—even after providing security assurances. Meanwhile, Russia is cajoling Trump to abandon America's alliances. "Chaos is a ladder." You of course a missing the point. Which is whose authority Milley engaged in those action on.
Ukraine cannot win an operational victory without the direct intervention of outside forces. What are you advocating for? Europe is free to send their armies and air forces to fight the Russians. We would be fools to do so. If your evaluation is correct and Putin has to been removed to ensure peace, what do you propose? Putin, and all Russian leaders are always attempting to manipulate America leaders to enact policies that help Russia, often at our expense and the expense of their neighbors. Which is what they did to Obama. Who did nothing when they invaded Ukraine in 2014. Trump is correct in his assessment of NATO, and NATO should have been disbanded 30 years ago. Your problem is that you've allowed yourself to be defined by what Trump isn't. You reflexively oppose him, even when he is clearly the sane voice. James: Which is whose authority Milley engaged in those action on.
Seriously? Miley was nominated Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by President Donald Trump and confirmed to the position by a near unanimous vote of the Senate. He reported to the Secretary of Defense, who was also confirmed by the Senate, and to the elected President of the United States. That’s the source of his authority. Biden was a strong supporter of Ukraine, but he had to balance that against instigating a wider war. James: Ukraine cannot win an operational victory without the direct intervention of outside forces. The goal is that Ukraine survives, and Russia is deterred from future aggression. Ukraine has in effect acted in the defence of Europe. James: Trump is correct in his assessment of NATO, and NATO should have been disbanded 30 years ago. There’s a reason Russia attacked Ukraine rather than NATO nations also on their periphery: Ukraine is not in NATO. NATO has successfully kept Russian aggression in check. It’s also important to remember that Russia had agreed to honor Ukrainian sovereignty. No lasting peace can be had with Russia when it can’t be trusted. Selling out the Ukrainians, which Trump seems intent on doing, will not guarantee American security or keep the United States out of foreign conflicts. Matt Taibbi and Walter Kirn gave the NYT piece a fisking on their podcast last night. Excellent.
Another chapter in the 'Now It Can Be Told' plethora of reports on the Biden administration, by the media that was too chickensh*t to write about it when it was important. Now it's sinking in, and they have to try to get in front of it: The Hunter Biden laptop squelching, the dementia-addled President, the running of the nation's affairs by the White House staff, the pilfering of billions from the Federal Reserve and rampant NGO gorging, money laundering, the deconstruction of the nation's borders and the wholesale importation of illegal aliens - yes, we can tell it all now, comrades, at last, please trust us and believe our reporting again. Not gonna happen, hacks. How NPR was sucked into the cult of the Left
------------------- It was not sucked in - it was founded as part of the move to concentrate and socialize mass media, created and funded by the Uniparty. It is a native creature of the privileged beltway swamp that is only now being drained. |
