We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
For a standard I like high fat, thin, smashed patties with onions cooked in. Lots of pickles. Mayonaise if it's grilled, mustard if it's greasy. If it has cheese it should be American.
With ground beef I always mix in a spoonful of baking powder dissolved in a couple spoonfuls of water. It helps with browning and not drying out.
I marinate my hamburger (lean ground sirloin) with a mix of lemon juice and soy sauce, then sprinkle with garlic powder and black pepper, mash thin, cook, melt extra sharp cheddar (take notes, Schumer) and service on thin buns with kosher pickles, onions, and a fresh slice of tomato, German mustard as a condiment.
I BBQ a lot of burgers. Nothing special though. I just make patties and grill 'em. Saves getting a skillet dirty and in the summer it helps keep the house cool by cooking outside.
I appreciate the effort that the commenters here put forth to make their burgers special, but I think mine are good enough the way I do it. Plus I am too lazy to go to all that effort and do the extra clean up.
