Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Canada isn't "prepping" for invasion! Canadian politicians are trying to whip up a nationalist prideful movement that will keep them in power. CBC news is on the bandwagon. Many Canadians only get their news from the government so that is who they believe.
This entire "51st" state thing was a joke because when Trudeau met with Trump he was whining about the tariff and how it would hurt Canada and Trump told him jokingly "you can always become America's 51st state. I doubt a single Canadian knows how that all came about. The Canadian leaders are following the EU model to destroy their country. The Canadians are being played so they ignore the destruction. that's how politics works and it works in favor of Trump but I don't know if Canadians would like to accept that. There must be something like election whether each single Canadians will vote for a Yes or a No.
OneGuy: This entire "51st" state thing was a joke
It wasn't a joke. Trump has repeated that he wants to annex Canada, reiterating the threat recently by falsely saying, "Canada was meant to be the 51st state because we subsidize Canada by $200 billion a year." He has insulted Canada and their elected leadership. He has imposed punitive tariffs, even though they are abiding by the trade agreement Trump himself signed. Trump has also threatened to annex Greenland, refusing to rule out taking it by military force. Greenland is a very different issue. Both China and Russia are intending on using/misusing Greenland to give them better access to U.S. and Canadian defenses. The risk is real and Denmark is sleepily trying to maintain their honored status as the happiest place on earth and are oblivious to what is going on. Interestingly Greenland just held a vote and the vote went overwhelmingly to the politicians who are most likely to favor putting themselves under America's protection. As for the military force if Russia OR China make a move on Greenland of course we will threaten force to make them back down in the time honored tradition of JFK who did the same with khrushchev when he moved missiles into Cuba. One way or another either our enemies or us will control Greenland.
Well Quibble-DickZ gotta quibble but no one here takes their quibbling seriously.
OneGuy: Interestingly Greenland just held a vote and the vote went overwhelmingly to the politicians who are most likely to favor putting themselves under America's protection.
In fact, all five parties in Greenland's parliament have united to reject US President Donald Trump's calls to take over Greenland. "We, all party leaders, cannot accept the repeated statements on annexation and control of Greenland," the parties said in a joint statement. "We … find this conduct unacceptable to friends and allies in a defense alliance." OneGuy: Both China and Russia are intending on using/misusing Greenland to give them better access to U.S. and Canadian defenses. Every imperialist ever has claimed they had to seize lands to keep the other imperialists from getting them. Regardless, the United States already has a military presence in Greenland. The United States doesn’t have to subjugate an unwilling people, contrary to international law, and against the very principles the United States has fought for over generations—the right of self-determination of a people. OneGuy: The risk is real and Denmark is sleepily trying to maintain their honored status as the happiest place on earth and are oblivious to what is going on. Denmark is a member of NATO, so an attack on Greenland is an attack on NATO, triggering the mutual defense treaty. Not a single one of your assertions sheds any light on how serious Trump is or isn't about making Canada "the 51st state. A fact which is so obvious it shouldn't need to be said.
That said, the whole meme was obviously originally a troll of Trudeau. Not serious at all. Trump clearly likes to get a rise out of progressive idiots like yourself. The reasonable explanation is that that is what he is doing. But feel free to continue looking like a clown. You do it so well. James: That said, the whole meme was obviously originally a troll of Trudeau.
Trump’s latest statement comes after Trudeau is no longer Prime Minister. Trump has repeated his intention even after it was clear that Canadians were taking it as an affront to their sovereignty. Do the words of the President of the United States have meaning? Do the promises of the Americans have any value? Re the Town Hall article about Daniel Shor's data: (something interesting about Trump.)
I heard Razib interview Shor, who has a history of irritating his fellow liberals because he tells them what the data really shows, not what they wish it showed. I respect his courage and honesty. He has lost jobs because of wokester hatred. Here is a point that he either misses or faintly hopes he can change. He thinks that Democrats should stop framing issues in a condescending, snobby way. He's right, but he doesn't get that condescension and snobbery are the point for a sizable portion of liberals. Most don't care about the issues - poverty, climate, homelessness - they care about the posing. Telling people to get off meds is both irresponsible and stupid. I'm done with Maggies.
People should be careful while getting off of them, but nobody should be taking anti-depressants or anti-anxieties. It should be a felony for doctors to prescribe them to people.
Really? What to make of the people whose quality of life significantly improved when they began taking antidepressants.
