Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: Next ice age would hit Earth in 11,000 years if it weren't for climate change, scientists say If it weren't for anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, Milankovitch cycles indicate that the Earth would be cooling slightly, rather than rapidly warming as is currently occurring. Chicken Little, don't worry. The world isn't ending. It's just a silly religion of conquest. They can't really hurt you, Chicken Little.
Jack, didn't you see the scary graph?
Repent! 1 degree celsius is at hand! jack walter: The world isn't ending.
That's right. Humans are highly adaptable, and they are more than capable of responding to the challenge of global warming. However, part of modern humanity's adaptability is from their scientific prowess, giving them the ability to project possible futures, and avoid or mitigate unfavorable outcomes. The longer it takes to effectively respond to the problem of anthropogenic global warming, the greater the economic cost, the higher the social tensions due to migration, and the broader the degradation of humanity's shared ecological inheritance. B. Hammer: 1 degree celsius is at hand! Adaptation to a warming of 1°C would be relatively uncomplicated, but warming much beyond that will have much greater social, economic, and ecological effects. Warming will probably be in the range of about 3°C, keeping in mind that 3°C is about half the difference between today and an ice age, so it is not insignificant. "Next ice age would hit Earth in 11,000 years if it weren't for climate change, scientists say"
----- Bulloney. The forces that cause ice ages are well beyond our capacity to change. easy: The forces that cause ice ages are well beyond our capacity to change.
Greenhouse gases are essential to Earth's climate system. Without greenhouse gases, Earth's surface temperature would be a chilly -18°C rather than the balmy +15°C that it is. A change in the greenhouse effect of just 10% (such as by doubling the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide) would increase Earth's surface temperature by about +3°C. The Impact of CO2, H2O and Other "Greenhouse Gases" on Equilibrium Earth Temperatures
Coe, Fabinski, and Wiegleb International Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences August 2021 ISSN 2640-1142 "This result strongly suggests that increasing levels of CO2 will not lead to significant changes in earth temperatures and that increases in CH4 and N2O will have very little discernable impact." "More than a century of accepted science has established that the warming potential of CO2 decreases as its atmospheric concentration rises."

International Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Just curious. Are you offering this article because you think it is authoritative, or because you found the details of the study convincing (or simply because it affirmed your position)? QUOTE: Trump Ending Benefits to Illegals Is a Game Changer ... The CBO claimed that that the federal government spent $177 billion in benefits for adult illegal aliens and their children who were admitted under Biden. First, the article conflates immigrants with illegal immigrants, when many immigrants have legal residence, such as under asylum laws. Furthermore, the article confuses past spending with projected spending over the next decade. But most importantly, the article leaves out that the report also found that taxes paid by immigrants will amount to $788 billion, for a net gain to the treasury of $611 billion. In addition to these direct benefits to the treasury, the report also found net indirect benefits to the treasury from economic activity of $285 billion. As for immigrants without legal status, they are already largely excluded from federal benefits, though children will still be eligible for educational benefits regardless of status under Plyler v. Doe. RE: Maine Public Schools Are Collapsing As Children Of Illegal Migrants Pour Into The State
I have family that teaches in the Lewiston ME school system and according to them, this article is accurate. It may even be understating the problem. Well, I rarely get what I vote for...my vote is like the kiss of death for any candidate.
But seriously, yes, you are correct. Maine is a beautiful state with no jobs and a really long winter season. It is one of the least likely places that an illegal would choose to go to because of the weather and lack of opportunities. The illegals didn't "pour" into it they were "poured". Blame your congress people and your local politicians. The end of federal handouts is going to place the burden of these foreign criminals on the local taxpayers. Hopefully they understand that their governor and others betrayed them.
Stunning Poll Finds Most Democrats Believe Joe Biden Left the U.S. Southern Border Open by Accident
Most= 75 percent of Democrats. Knaves or fools? I vote for fools. re Next ice age would hit Earth in 11,000 years if it weren't for climate change, scientists say
Wow! Now we can predict the weather 11,000 years out. Who knew? QUOTE: That's not to say that cooking the planet is a good idea, Barker cautioned. "What we don't want is for people who want to emit more CO2 into the atmosphere to jump on this," he said. Why not? feeblemind: Now we can predict the weather 11,000 years out.
It's not a weather prediction, but a prediction about Earth's mean surface temperature. It's similar to how we can determine that the Earth's mean surface temperature was cooler 11,000 years ago than it is today, but not knowing what the weather was like on a particular day. Or even simpler, how we can predict that the average temperature in Paris will be warmer in summer than winter, without knowing what day in July to plan a picnic. feeblemind: Why not? Because anthropogenic emissions into the atmosphere are creating a deleterious increase in the Earth's mean surface temperature with a significant impact over the next several decades. Are you God (even though you're probably an atheist)? You seem to claim that you know everything about everything. Must be great to be you. Do you worship yourself? Do all who know you worship you? Should Maggiesfarm dedicate a shrine to you?
Obviously the Quibble-DickZ are not invited to many parties.
DeGaulle: You seem to claim that you know everything about everything.
Hardly. However, we do know that weather, climate, and Earth’s mean surface temperature are different phenomena. And none of them all that predictable. We can't even predict solar cycle durations or intensities all that accurately and the Milankovitch cycles, made of 3 inputs all of which vary, make that cycles duration or intensity unpredictable.
The climate cult doesn't even have a working hypothesis on AGW which relegates the cult to hoping, wishing, and grifting for dollars.
