Tuesday morning links

The headlines point out the $50 billion of waste that DOGE finds in specific program but that doesn't include the huge savings when thousands of unnecessary employees are let go. At this rate the total savings when the DOGE recommendations are implemented will exceed the yearly debt. AND the Social Security system might be saved as well.

I hope that there is a follow up investigation to find anyone who defrauded our government to steal money. And a strong effort to claw back money that was already stolen. We always knew the system was rife with fraud and waste but I doubt anyone thought it was this bad.

After blissfully not watching 60 Minutes for decades, I was surprised to find it was still on the air. After viewing clips of that show, I was even more surprised.

Starmer and the previous regime have been supplying high tech, long range weapons and the experts to operate them for the express purpose of killing Russians. Now he wants to go in there and play peacekeeper??? I swear that spineless half a man wakes up each and every morning with a crazy new plan to destroy Britain (what's left of it).

It would also be a good time to close US bases in the UK because any direct combat between the UK and Russia will turn the UK into a missile and torpedo magnet. What the hell are they smoking over there?

Starmer is hugely unpopular after only six months and probably looking at a non confidence vote. Like all politicians he is just 'wagging the dog'. He is trying to recreate himself as an international statesman now. Tony Blair did the same thing after Iraq. Pure distraction. As for what we're smoking? Not much. More like drinking a pint of Tetley's bitter and eating a few sausage rolls. There are still more us here than them. Hold fast regardless over there. ;)

One more thing. Labour only got in because we had a conservative government in for 13 years that did absolutely NOTHING conservative. They increased illegal immigration! It was a protest vote but I doubt anyone knew just how insane these people are. Reform is leading in the polls now (basically our version of MAGA). I wouldn't put it past these fascists to try and ban their opposition just as Germany is attempting. Check out Ireland and Scotland. If somebody had told me they would give up their sovereignty so easily I would never have believed it. That's coming from an Englishman. :(

At 36K per student per year, it's a perfect example of how it would be cheaper to provide vouchers for private school enrollment and home school reimbursements.

NBC blames Canada plane crash on Trump... Delta has a DEI program that they won't end so I suppose the FAA has to mandate putting placards on all aircraft that says, "this side up".

This likely has nothing to do with DEI. Though windy, the crosswinds were within limits for the jet (typically around 30 Kts or so) although gusty.

I suspect what happened was due to a seldom practiced maneuver: On a contaminated runway, pilots (at least at Delta) are encouraged to make a "firm touchdown" to avoid hydroplaning and to facilitate wheel spin-up to get maximum brake effectiveness. This typically involves making an incomplete flair. From the video, it looks like there was no flair at all, and a very hard landing occurred driving the right landing gear through the wing. It is possible wind shear was a contributing factor too.

Wind shear was surely a factor. Winter in Canada has been really bad for the last month. I was born in England but have lived most of my life in the 'snow belt' on Lake Huron. Shoveling snow and frigid temps aren't new to me and I'm not getting any younger. It doesn't usually get to me but it has this February. Still, I got it done today and that's a win. Spring is going to be amazing. My late Mother always said 'keep a good thought.' Good advice. =)
