Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

It's a poorly kept secret that many federal workers are on a year round vacation. They work from "home" but "home" can be anything from the beaches of Puerto Rico and Hawaii to Paris and Rome. They wake by 9:00 DC time and sign on and then make sure to do a couple of things online before the sign off by 5:00 DC time. Pretty good gig. They don't really accomplish anything but no worries their boss is doing the same thing so he isn't going to say anything. Some of the office buildings in DC have the capacity for thousands of workers and the offices are empty except for the occasional janitor and the security staff. If you show up at these "public" buildings they won't let you in. You can't get anyone on the phone it is an automated circle jerk. You can't show up without an appointment and you must make your appointment by phone. If you try to go see for yourself where your tax dollars are going the guards will turn you away and if you don't leave they will arrest you. THAT is your government folks!
Democrat lawmakers have just staged a Feb 7 insurrection at the Dept. of Education.
Anon: Democrat lawmakers have just staged a Feb 7 insurrection at the Dept. of Education.
Oh, did they drag a cop into the mob and beat him with an American flag pole, force their way past barricades, break windows to get in, all in order to stop the certification of the presidential election? If so, they should certainly be held to account. Let us know. Anon claimed they had already committed insurrection. The last we heard, someone told them they couldn't enter (probably because of a rule against demonstrating on premises), so they made speeches outside.
QUOTE: so they made speeches outside Perhaps they should try to win an election the next time around.

The insurrection is bureaucrats choosing to ignore the stated policies and EOs of the elected head of the executive branch to implement progressive's preferred policies. Which is what you wholeheartedly support.
Very odd for one who repeatedly expresses concern about threats to democracy.

That wouldn't necessarily be insurrection, but they might be removable for cause. However, bureaucrats are constrained by laws and regulations, so not all presidential directives are lawful.

Then would the "Summer of Love" 2020 qualify as an attempted insurrection? They laid siege and attacked a federal courthouse, destroyed a few police precincts, attacked 60,000 police officers, at least one retired officer was killed, not to mention destruction of public property.
Just curious. mudbug: They laid siege and attacked a federal courthouse
Not all riots are an insurrection. Consider that several J6ers were convicted of seditious conspiracy, the jury finding that they had mutually agreed to commit crimes to prevent Biden from becoming the lawful president in order to keep Trump in power. You can probably answer your own question. "Several" versus the nearly 1400 arrested and charged. Hmmm. And DC juries and DC judges.
And how have those charges held up in the SCOTUS? https://www.scotusblog.com/2024/06/justices-rule-for-jan-6-defendant/

The vast majority of offenses have been upheld, including seditious conspiracy, but any further appeals have been forestalled by Trump pardoning those who tried to use violence to keep him in power.

No, but their fellow Democrats are calling for the execution of MAGA supporters in "extraconstitutional" actions.
"Lenawee [Michigan] Dem party chair calls for death penalty for Trump supporters: ‘Hanged by the neck until dead’,” The Midwesterner reports. Leveling accusations of Naziism and fascism typically used by Antifa types the County Chairman Bill Swift left no doubt he wants his political enemies to be executed by the state, arguing that President Trump’s efforts “would be sufficient morally to support his extraconstitutional removal.” "Being nice is overrated. Just find a good lawyer and choose violence," were the words posted to Facebook by Vice Chair of the El Paso County Democratic Party Rob Rogers on Jan. 24. ruralcounsel: Dem party chair calls for death penalty for Trump supporters: ‘Hanged by the neck until dead’,
Despite the dangers inherent in Trump's moves towards autocracy, there's no excuse for advocating violence to resolve these political differences, even if just by a local official. History shows that extraconstitutional means won't save constitutional government. Scientific American hasn't been scientific or American for a long time. They no longer report science and they are owned by the Germans. I quit reading them long ago.
