Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

'41 Percent of Chicago Teachers Were Chronically Absent Last Year, Report Finds'
Probably PTSD. Yet again, we see that global markets respond to sound policies. Hopefully, things improve.
Several problems with the randomness of the Million Monkeys: First the Typewriter is not a random artifact. How long would it take a Million monkeys to assemble a typewriter from Dirt? Second, It takes an intelligent mind to recognize if and when the monkeys duplicate the existing text of Shakespeare. Third, It takes intelligence to set up the experiment in the first place -- collecting and feeding a million monkeys, assembling and housing a million typewriters. Providing the paper and ribbons, clearing typewriter jams and maintenance.
I would guess 95% of the experiment is not random and only 5% is random keystrokes. Never thought of the million monkey analogy as anything other than absurd.
On the other paw, it is an awful amount of poo. One million monkeys caged in a zoo; Everyday they eat, everyday they poo. Monkeys as typists? I must disagree. They're best peeling 'nanners, high in a tree. Apologies to Bill Shakespeare, Ogden et al. Which is why the key step in Darwin’s theory is “selection”.
Darwin actually proposes three different selection methods: natural (adaptation to environment), sexual (female mating preferences), and group (competition between groups). Briggs is an antiDarwinist. Thierry Breton, that long-haired, bespectacled, pompous ass that is bloviating about banning 'X' and Elon Musk: If the citizens of the EU allow this un-elected, unappointed, sinecure-chasing fool to dictate their thinking, then they richly deserve everything they get as a consequence, and the quicker and harder, the better. Thoroughly fed up with being bedeviled with such self-satisfied empty losers, with nothing to offer except their view of the World Order.
The tribe runs Europe, and yearn for the "good old days" of their Messiahs - Lenin and Stalin.
They have fond memories of Pravda, Tass, and Izvestia under their tutelage! No one loves dissing the Democrats more than I do. And I would agree that Democrat failures in California, especially Southern California litter the landscape. They have moved money from fire and emergency services to fund special interests and kickbacks to Democrat politicians. Yes, houses could have been saved with more and better qualified firemen and equipment. Yes California's water policies contributed to the size and difficulty fighting this disaster. Yes, the Democrats have done everything wrong that could possibly be dones wrong in their zeal to steal the last taxpayer dollar from the states coffers. But... even if everything was perfect we would still have these fires. The Santa Ana Winds cannot be stopped nor abated. The huge, enormous landscape of hills and valley full of dry brush and grass are the perfect setting for a brush fire that is near impossible to stop. And every year these two key factors are present without regard of what humans do. Then a match, a fire work, an arsonist, anything starts a fire and it becomes a self fulfilling force of nature. It cannot be prevented and it cannot stop until it runs out of fuel and/or wind.
There are things that the government could do to mitigate the damage and to make it easier for fire fighters to deal with the fires and even keep them from destroying entire neighborhoods. But even if every effort is made and everything is done right we will still see these fires cyclically, and we will see massive destruction to homes and property. It is the incredible force of mother nature vs the weak efforts of humans. The key to living in brush fires areas is to prevent the buildup of fuel, so that fires, when they happen, are not hot enough to spread. They use controlled burns to do this, to keep the fuel supply minimized. But the environmentalists have not only come out against this, they've come out against manual brush clearing too, and against the construction of fire breaks.
It's suicidal - but the population has, until now, complied with it, and supported it because controlled burns makes them nervous. Better to be a little nervous during the wet seasons and still have a roof over your head. Aggie: Better to be a little nervous during the wet seasons
It IS the wet season. However, Los Angeles hasn’t had significant rain since May. How to become a morning workout person in 9 easy steps
Four of the nine (Upgrade to a More Expensive Gym, Buy a Workout Bag, etc.) involve spending money on stupid stuff. The only constructive recommendation mentions, in passing, taking a morning walk. If you follow up that walk with a few moderate stretching and weight-lifting drills, you can work yourself up to a solid morning workout in a couple of months. Pretty much for free. At home. QUOTE: Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes. ...or, you can join the Army. The first thing we did every morning in Basic training was run three miles.

In 2014 California passed a water project in proposition 1. From the Los Angeles Times... Have no prop.1 water projects been built in California? No, but they are moving slowly Perhaps the 'train to nowhere' is going to haul water from the Great Lakes? Typical government admin state cannot prioritize projects until they are set on fire. Nor can they maintain infrastructure... see the Oroville dam. California is in the same dysfunctional state as South Africa. California is actually in the same dysfunctional state as Zimbabwe. South Africa has not yet descended to that low level because of the diamond mines. Although it yearns to get there!
Mark Matis: California is actually in the same dysfunctional state as Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe with a $4 trillion economy, growing over half the country's produce, and a thriving technology sector now innovating in AI. One thing is clear from the Pam Bondi confirmation hearings; The Democrats are terrified that she might investigate the 2020 election OR the J6 prosecutions.
I'm old enough to remember when a Republican House announced that they were releasing all of the Jan 6 security tapes for anyone to go through and watch them. That lasted about 2 days, before they were all taken down again. Why were they taken down? And now we have control of House, Senate, White House, DOJ and so on.
But, still no tapes. Makes a body wonder. Americans who engage in misinformation, blah, blah, blah. I would suggest Hillary's charge be 48V D.C. straight from solar panels to keep it climate change neutral.
