Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Jack Smith released his report at 1:00 AM this morning in spite of a judges ruling that it not be released. It has all the usual false claims and baseless accusations but it had something else too. Jack Smith choose to include as an indictable offense that Trump tried to get State election officials to do their job. I think this is an opening for Trump to create an official investigation into the 2020 election. There are many who want to sweep this stolen election under the rug but I believe that the stolen election was the most serious act by the deep state in the last 61 years (yes since the assassination of JFK). We should not ignore it or just get back to business as usual.
I would suggest as a starting point to call everyone of the 40,000 "mules" (from the movie 2000 mules) to testify under oath. We know their names because we know their cell phone numbers. The first thing each of them should be offered is immunity if they testify honestly and name all those they know of that were involved in the conspiracy. Get all 40,000 to state on the record what they did and who they conspired with and work up the chain to the leaders of this coup. Americans need to know the truth. They were literally going to charge Trump with insurrection because he was trying to get to the bottom of who stole the election. It is imperative that Trump authorize an investigation to expose the truth. OneGuy: Jack Smith released his report at 1:00 AM this morning in spite of a judges ruling that it not be released.
The judge's order expired at midnight, hence the time of the release. And Jack was up anyway, choking on his own rage and anger, so why wait until morning. Plus, you know, making sure it gets on the morning shows.

The report reviews the basis for the probable cause indictment. The prosecutors were willing to put the charges before a jury. "The prosecutors were willing to put the charges before a jury." Your point?
James4HJ: Your point?
The grand jury found probable cause that Trump committed federal crimes, and that the prosecutors believed a jury would find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. So it was at least a ham sandwich?
Excellent, Trump's bound to be just as guilty, tee hee. Re: Jen Rubin "Exits" the Washington Post
I don’t understand the interest in anything that Jen Rubin says or does. I read her columns in the ‘90s when she was a conservative, even though I agreed with her, I found them boring because she didn’t display any critical thought. Her columns were generic conservative arguments. There were no unique insights, no new information, and no new perspectives and all of it said in a plain, uninteresting style. When she became a woke idiot, the only thing that changed was the subject. I think that whatever happens in her career is just as unremarkable as she is. My New Year's prediction: Hollywood will make a movie about the 2025 LA fires, it will try to blame Republicans for it probably through connecting them to resisting fighting climate change. It will show many LGBQT+, female and POC people who "saved" LA. And somehow Newsome will be shown to have done all the right things.
Kids should be legally allowed to play outside whenever their parents say they can. A four year old playing with a six year old sibling or friend might be fine, in the back or front yard, while two fifteen year olds might be on the road to ruin. Or not.
Children playing outside: IMHO this is 100% the purview of the parents. Not the police, neighbors, Karens or even courts UNLESS they are breaking a law or otherwise causing a problem. Let a six YO walk to the store! I did at six. Let them stay out till dark. I did at six. Let the parents decide and the only reason anyone should interfere is if there is a law broken. The police are charged with enforcing the laws not enforcing a third party's feelings.
Does this mean that children could get hurt or in trouble? Yes, so what! I did all those things at six and before. I learned!! It was the norm in the 40's and 50's that the parents decided what was right for children and when the child screwed up a Neighbor, teacher or cop brought this to the parents attention and a lesson was administered and the child learned from it. I got broken bones, cuts and bruises, got beat up, got bullied, bullied others, got sick from eating something I shouldn't and every time I did something wrong I learned from it. That is what childhood should be. We can disagree on the latitude of the parents and child in this but I absolutely believe that if the child is not breaking the law or at serious risk that the police and courts have no business sticking their noses into it. I would welcome well intended information from neighbors and even strangers about my child's actions but NOT interference. I know people who lost their home insurance prior to the fire. They knew it was coming and went out and bought insurance but their insurance cost a lot more than previously. I don't personally know anyone whose home burned, as far as I know. However I know a lot of people who will be hugely affected by these fires. Home insurance is going to skyrocket. The insurance agents have predicted two things, 1 that most insurance companies will leave California, and 2 that insurance for most people will increase by about 400% and the deductible for specific risks will jump to 50%. This is for everyone in California with some areas being worse and other areas being a little better. In other words you can live where fire danger is almost non-existent but you will still pay 400% more for it and if you have a mortgage you must have it. Wait until this sticker shock hits.
