We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

What really needs a college degree that can't really be achieved with apprenticeship, internship, or a trade school?

Some states permit licensing people as architects who have essentially apprenticed a certain number of years. Ditto engineers. I work with some people who have gotten their licenses that way.

Doctors? If they just went straight to med school without four years getting indoctrinated in college. (Med school could be another two years to get the useful part of the eduction they get as undergrads.)

Most professions can be better learned through an apprenticeship program than four plus years of college.

‘Polio Ravaged My Family.’

I have mixed feelings about RFK Jr as HHS secretary. His long history of crazy beliefs is truly scary. But on the other hand what our country's health care officials have done over the last 30 years or so is also truly scary. If he does nothing more than open records and investigate wrongdoing I will be happy with his appointment. But if he tries to legislate food or use scare tactics to end vaccines he should be removed from office. To be honest I believe that RFK Jr has a mental health problem and may be unfit for any public office.

The major problem with a land for peace deal in Ukraine is that there effectively was one in place prior to the Russian invasion. Ukraine agreed to give up the Soviet-era nukes and long-range missiles in exchange for a territorial guarantee from both the US and Russia that included Crimea and Donbas within Ukrainian borders (along with a side-letter agreement that the US would base their next generation of rockets on the engines that Ukraine was building for what could have been a locally produced intercontinental or long-range missile)
The ask then now is to give up territory that had previously been guaranteed to them by the same parties that are now asking for the concession. The question raised by Ukraine is about what they will be asked to give up 20 years from now in exchange for continued peace.

Why? How would they know? Simple, because the federal government is flying the zones. So why the secrecy? Why not just tell us what they are doing? Because they can't or more accurately they don't dare tell us. They are searching the East coast area for nukes. It is The Sum of All Fears come true. Someone has brought in nuclear bombs into our country and the federal government is playing catch up trying to find them.

Could it be something else going on, something far less scary? Yes it could! But what would that be to have the Federal government flying surveillance drones over a dozen states and denying they are doing it? there is irrefutable evidence that some nukes have gone missing somewhere in Eastern Europe. Coincidence?

The goal is chaos and division so that they can more easily take control. It looks like crazy but it is simply insurrection/coup by lies and accusations. The Democrats want to destroy the U.S. so that they can rule over the ashes. Imagine a political party so unpatriotic that they would bring in 15 million illegal replacement voters and then fight tooth and nail to keep the border open. They hate Americans that much. They intend to take your money, your jobs and your property to pay the illegals for votes once they manage to make them citizens. Then what? Will all Americans just roll over for this? Doubtful, there will be a revolt and fighting in the street. And Ironically that too plays into the hands of the Democrat/communists.
