Since our kids have grown, we minimize it. No more piles of presents, etc. Some holiday cocktail parties are nice, and a few holiday lunches. We minimize the Christmas presents thing, and no damn jewelry.
Christmas is a celebration of a sort-of miracle. In my ancestors' Puritan culture, celebrating Christmas was considered Papist and was illegal. If you got caught making a pie at Christmas you were in trouble.
Not sure how that changed but I do not blame Coca Cola.
Anyway, I believe in comestibles at Christmas, preferably home-made. Mrs. BD makes killer Christmas cookies. Since she was raised Roman Catholic, we do "fasting" on Christmas Eve. Poached salmon with dill sauce usually, before or after church.
I am board with Einstein - the latter sentence:
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a
miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." -Albert Einstein
Oh - I just learned about Naked Wines. Stinky cheeses and special wines are my holiday favorites. I do not want or need anything material. Well, I do need books.
You can leave Santa some Ozempic.
