Re; College Students Cheating

When I was a grad TA in the mid-90s, buying papers on line was really just starting. In less than one year, we changed the submittal requirements for papers. In addition to submitting the paper, they had to submit photocopies, scans, or printouts of the material they used in the research with the source text that they referenced highlighted, and the bibliography had to be annotated, the annotations consisting of a brief paragraph describing the material with a brief evolution. This meant a ten page paper submittal was about an inch thick.

They had to provide an interim submittal a little more than halfway through the term that showed they were working on the paper. This included an outline of the paper, photocopied, printed, or scanned source material, and a bibliography, not yet annotated.

The irony is that I am sure that students still BOUGHT papers, but then spent so much time providing the rest of the stuff that despite their intentions, they may have actually learned something about the topic. Though writing a research paper was NOT a skill that they honed.

I had always understood that NC had fairly reasonable permitting requirements for "tiny homes" to begin with. And if the powers that be wanted to be sympathetic, they could provide a short term waiver for the ones built by the Amish.

I remember after the fire in CA that wiped out Paradise, I thought that this company that did 3D printed houses would be a great way to provide something for the people who lost heir homes... And the company 's headquarters was in California. But their houses didn't meet CA residential building code.
