We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I only discovered American Digest a year and a half prior to Mr. Van der Leun's passing'. Like many or probably most I thoroughly enjoyed his writing, knowledge, humor and insight.
After he left us I spent many hours going back through his archives enjoying his older posts.
I have ordered a hardcover copy - Thank you for posting this!
It was pure coincidence but we lived very very close to Gerard during some of the years we were in Seattle. He knew some of the groups I would refer to in my observations about Seattle. He helped me on several occasions by acknowledging what I was witness to.
I miss his words very much--never a misdirection, never a quick and careless do. Pure gold almost every time!
