Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Bill O'Reilly on the topic: https://x.com/CitizenFreePres/status/1859465217790394868 re Now that Trump has won, how to talk to your liberal friends
In re I avoid politics mostly That's really all you can do. It's incredibly difficult to discuss politics with someone who is both irrational and ignorant. The British Labour Party comes after the Kulaks.
The plan is to tax their land away via the inheritance tax. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czj71zyy934o.amp And the Labor party, after taxing the land into government hands, wouldn't be able to even grow weeds on the land. It will go back to 'nature' and then back to the Robin Hoods. Labor would deserve no less.
History of the last century has not had a good record for government-owned agricultural lands. A recent fiasco is in Cuba, where the government-owned land previously used to grow sugar cane lay fallow long enough to be infested with the weed marabú. Had the all-knowing Cuban government changed the lands once growing sugar to either grass or corn for cattle, the land wouldn't have remained fallow and wouldn't have been infested with the weed. An estimated 25% of Cuban agricultural land is infested with marabú. Result: collapse of agricultural production. Milk production in Cuba is a third of what it was in 1989.
Ah, the wonders of socialist agriculture. Bring on the inheritance tax. An opportunity for Ireland. After they inflicted our famine upon us, we in Ireland will be delighted to provide the food they need, in order to prevent their starvation. Provided somebody else doesn't pay us more, of course. That was their view in the 1840's when our people were starving, you know.
I hope RFK Jr cleans up a lot of the mess in our nations health care bureaucracy. I also hope he manages to keep his personal biases out of it. But we don't need a food czar. In fact almost everything that is said or written about food and additives and toxic and "healthy" food is simply inaccurate. We need to return to questioning science and an active participation in the process by all players and an end to the media or groups editing or suppressing information. Openness and honesty is necessary or people won't trust "the science".
Obesity is a problem. But it is characterized inaccurately and this inaccuracy is used to further personal agenda's. Obesity, not simply being overweight, is mostly genetic. The single biggest reason for the increase in obesity in America is the constant immigration from countries where obesity is genetic, like Central and South America and sub-Saharan Africa. You absolutely cannot fix that problem by banning certain food groups for everyone. Obesity is an individual problem that requires that the obese individual treats his/her health issue. It is NOT a national problem. Overweight is different. Most of us, without regard to our genetic background, can easily become obese by eating too much and/or not getting enough exercise. And that problem becomes worse with age for a number of reasons. The solution is simple, but not necessarily easy: First always be aware of your weight and don't allow yourself to gain weight above your ideal weight. Weigh yourself everyday and act accordingly. Secondly, if you are overweight begin a program to lose the weight and stick to it. Once you are at your ideal weight check it everyday and take steps to correct any weight gain. It is a life long effort that is harder for some people and easier for others. The real problem with food and pharma is that the regulated have 'purchased' the regulators with musical chairs employment. Work as regulated and then work as the regulator, rinse and repeat. One big happy incestuous family.
Re: Ukraine….in further escalation news: Brandon authorized the use of anti-personnel mines. Putin launched a ballistic missile. The powers that be want to continue the war until the last Ukrainian, while they pocket millions of dollars. That’s my take on it. The only good guys are the men and women dying by the thousands. Now that Zelensky has publicly admitted the obvious, Mr. The Art of the Deal, can broker a cease fire at the very least.
I’m so old that I remember the leftist peacenik types, their good buddies in U.N., along with Amnesty International crying to the heavens that these weapons of indiscriminate killing be banned. MSN.com, tries to sugar coat the news saying that the land mines that (lol)President Biden authorized, have safe guards. What? What kind of safe guards could a landmine possess? They don’t say. “These weapons cannot distinguish between civilians and combatants as required by international humanitarian law.” Says Center for Civilians in Conflict advocacy group. Who? Amnesty International USA, said, “It is devastating, and frankly shocking, that President Biden made such a consequential and dangerous decision just before his public service legacy is sealed for the history books.” Is it? Is it really? I’m not shocked. It’s par for the course. I do think the ICC should look into this. Joe Biden is a war criminal. Add that to his legacy. Alas, it was the cack-handed Russians who caused the escalation in the first place, simply by their egregious (and ill-fated) 2022 invasion attempt, which promoted a simmering regional conflict to an international one overnight.
Free speech, despite being a great idol of the United States, obviously doesn't apply when it comes to literature allegedly directed against certain privileged people. No prizes for guessing their identity.
