Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

'Longshoremen strike against automation'
No panic-buying yet. Maybe we learned our lesson after the bullshit supernova that was Covid. Oh, noes! There's an impending banana shortage, and you really can't stock 'em up. Oh, I just remembered, I don't eat bananas. Never mind.
My wife keeps buying five or more of the things at a time.
I tell her to buy no more than three of them at a time, which we'll manage to consume over the period of a week or so. But no, back she comes with five bananas, two of which will inevitably turn black. Beats me. The only reason the longshoremen are against "automation" is that they won't have the chance of stealing the vast amount of goods they used to steal!
"Elite college students do not read books"
They just like to tell you they did, and do. lol Wow, you've just simplified the whole job interview process for applicants recently graduated from college.
"Name three books you've read in the past year." -- crickets -- "Thank you. Next." What is the difference between jonny carry and a Box of Rocks? The Rocks will not betray you.
That is the entire purpose of "hate speech and crime" to punish anyone who does not toe the far left agenda. The "invaders" are our strength dammit and you are a racist, islamophobe, homophobe if you speak the truth.
[i]"It’s not that they don’t want to do the reading. It’s that they don’t know how."[\i]
Absurd. They can read news articles and poems, but not a book because they don't know how? So, I guess they get a page or two into a book and suddenly forget how to turn a page, or forget that text reads left to right, or what? Stop making stupid excuses for lazy students. They just don't want to do the reading. That's it, end of story. Yes many are lazy, but this group has been raised watching TV and computer screens that put up ideas in a very short time span. Always jumping around and to music so they feel like they need to be entertained in order to complete a task. They system has ben then to have extremely short attention spans. I remember when our children were little the PBS station had educational programs like the Electric Company and other programs that taught the kids about the alphabet and reading but in entertaining ways and quick actions and visual entertainment. Even teaching grade school the kids expected to be entertained in order to learn.
So what we're saying is not that they don't know how, but that they'd prefer not to, and no one in authority in their lives is requiring it--or frankly, requiring them to do much of anything they don't happen to feel like doing.
And then they bomb their first jobs, because their bosses the quaint idea that they do in fact have the right to require employees to do things in exchange for paychecks. FEMA is slow in coming to the aid of the South East after the recent hurricane. A recent revelation might shed some light on this. The Biden Harris administration has been siphoning off money from the FEMA Disaster budget to pay the costs of flying illegal aliens into our country. It is likely that the administration has siphoned money from other budgets as well to pay the massive cost of this illegal invasion. But not only did they illegally misspend these tax dollars but they fraudulently covered it up. No one is above the law. Congress do your job, impeach both Biden and Harris.
My small county was brought to its knees by Harvey in 2017. There was a lot of buzz about FEMA help, but I discovered quickly that FEMA doesn't do most of what people assume it does. It does grant some emergency cash for displaced people who flee to hotels.
After that, FEMA's main function seems to be to funnel money to the state to dispense according to federal guidelines, which almost exclusively mandate state- or county-level building projects. There are byzantine cost-benefit standards, but what it comes down to is that FEMA is not interested in building whatever blew down, it mostly wants projects that meet "resilience" standards by theoretically making public assets less prone to being destroyed again in the next storm. I don't think there are any FEMA funds available to rebuild homes or local businesses, or at least, if there are, the effort wasn't apparent here. They were a few Texas General Land Office grants for rebuilding homes. Nor did FEMA want to rebuild, say, county government offices; they consider that a proper burden for local taxpayers and county insurers. They could get interested in road and drainage projects and shoreline protection. FEMA's biggest impact locally is its rules for flood insurance availability, not just for individual projects, but for the whole county. The county is terrified of violating FEMA standards by granting too many waivers, as FEMA overtly threatens to downgrade coverage for the whole county if theydo. Anon: Biden Harris administration has been siphoning off money from the FEMA Disaster budget to pay the costs of flying illegal aliens into our country.
No, Biden didn’t take FEMA relief money to use on migrants — but Trump did With misinformation swirling in Hurricane Helene’s wake, officials urge residents to ‘stop this conspiracy theory junk’ But, sure: “They’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats.” The longshoremen are on strike, partly because they want to slow down or prevent automation, but not understanding their strike may actually accelerate the adoption of automation.
All longshoremen should be fired immediately and replaced with non-union people who want to work. Big Union is such a scam. If these states were right-to-work this wouldn't be a problem.
I hope most of them are replaced with automation. Maybe if all our stuff wasn't made somewhere else it wouldn't matter so much. Are those non-union people, the illegals coming in? They should work cheaper.
It makes economic sense to import some products from other places if it's for a cheaper price. Not only do I not have a problem with that, but in many cases I prefer it.
Big Union doesn't have a problem with illegal immigration, as long as they pay dues. They're international comrades, after all. Some used to protect against it, but not anymore. I think dock work is a good fit for cheap, legal immigrant labor. Longshoremen are over paid for what they do. If the longshoremen strike stops the flow of any parts it will shut down other union jobs such as auto assembly, equipment assembly, and most every occupation that requires any subcomponents. Only government and public school workers will be unaffected.
John Kerry should teach a course in how to marry someone rich.
People like John Kerry are the reason the First Amendment was needed.
In a recent comment section of The NewNeo, a.k.a. the old NeoNeocon, there were some references to John Kerry. NewNeo: Today is the 20th anniversary of this blog.
One commenter quoted from a 2004 posting of Neo: Stop Me Before I Lie Again.: QUOTE: So the mystery remains: why lie? Most liars lie for strategic reasons, and, when found out in their lies, they make excuses, or come up with another lie. But Kerry’s lies are only partly strategic, designed to win an argument. The rest is driven by his character disorder, narcissism, which often involves the trait of compulsive lying. Essentially, Kerry is a habitual liar who is simply in the habit of lying and perhaps even has difficulty distinguishing between lies and truth. Character disorders are usually constant throughout life. They are not particularly amenable to treatment or intervention–that’s why they’re called “character disorders,” meaning that the flaws are deeply embedded in the basic character of the person. As for narcissistic personality disorder, which I believe Kerry suffers from (although I must say that with a character disorder, it’s usually the people around the character-disordered person who are doing most of the suffering)–the following are the relevant traits. You be the judge as to whether they fit Kerry–I think it’s a slam dunk Commenter Mike+K contributed a John Kerry story. QUOTE: My DIL, before she married my son, was visiting a pal in Boston one night during the 2004 election campaign when they heard a commotion on the north side of Bunker Hill where Kerry and Teresa live. They threw on bathrobes and slippers and ran down the hill to see. It was the Kerry caravan returning for the night. Here were two cute girls in bathrobes and slippers so, of course, the cops and Secret Service guys gathered around and started to tell stories. A lot of the stories from the local cops concerned the number of times they had had to respond to drunken fights between Teresa and John F. It was hilarious as both girls were conservative and both have gone on to successful careers plus families. More big earthquakes on the ring of fire. It's coming, California, Alaska, maybe Japan, but it's coming, the big one.
