Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

When the left-wing government in Germany starts making noises about border control your first reaction is 1> Kamala Harris style border wall BS born out of political desperation, or 2> oh no, it must be the end of Schengen.
Thanks for the Main real estate link. That is unbelievable. Some people have money to burn.
QUOTE: Who will fact-check the fact-checkers? {links to Fox News for support} "Look at {Northam}, not the current governor who is doing an excellent job, but the governor before him, who said, ‘The baby will be born, and we will decide what to do with the baby.’ In other words, we’ll execute the baby," Trump said. That's a misrepresentation of Northam's comments. The topic was a non-viable fetus due to severe malformations, and whether to abort the fetus at nine months. Northam, a pediatrician, said that, instead of an abortion, the mother would give birth, then the parents, in consultation with their doctors, could decide whether to temporarily prolong a life in pain or to allow a natural death. Most parents choose to allow their infant to die a natural death in the arms of the mother, rather than die suffering in an incubator under a futile attempt at life support. It's a tragic situation, made worse by anti-abortion zealots. "Asked Wednesday about Democratic Virginia delegate Kathy Tran’s admission that her bill would allow for abortions to be performed up until the point of birth, Northam defended the legislation and suggested that women should be able to determine whether their born-alive infant should receive life-saving care.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,” Northam said during an interview on WTOP radio." https://www.yahoo.com/news/northam-term-abortion-remarks-don-200921857.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9kdWNrZHVja2dvLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAACF7TAX6G_t5io7vTcFonoUEgQOmtRfdQi3Jd3oaYjlVboWDxbB0hAf8eHKmaaYcDS8R45HmzPYF7jEU3hjeW4bKUkKzHvVpF_3ICLSSPDRFcAyw5xZWk8OHS8GGujbgHPWTH1p71t7dwfOceOaI_Dhvx9p4NR9p-Mrqkj3XdYih I believe you added non existent 'context'. QUOTE: ”When we talk about third trimester abortions … it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that is non-viable,” Northam said. “If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” QUOTE: Here are some of the biggest falsehoods Harris told during her debate with Trump.
Harris claimed that she grew up a “middle-class kid.” That is not true. As previously noted by journalist Megyn Kelly, Harris’ father was a professor at Stanford University, while her mother was a biomedical scientist at UC Berkley. Harris was raised by a single mother from age seven. Her mother's income would be high middle income. Her mother saved for a decade to purchase her first home when Kamala was in high school. Most of the other so-called falsehoods are also lacking in validity. "Her mother's income would be high middle income." I'm doubtful of the precision or reliability of any assertions about her mother's income 50 years ago. I'm guessing someone accessed records for salary by position. Which would exclude stripens for extra duties, teaching in inter-semester classes or summer school. Nor would it include income from publishing or perhaps the occasional paid speaking engagement. Nor would it account for any child support paid by Harris' father. Further, there are a lot of people in the upper middle class and the lower quintile of the upper class who maintain high levels of debt to inflate their experienced and perceived class. All of which is to say you are, as is frequently true, FOS in your "factual assertion."
But all of that misses the point. As a medical school professor and medical doctor, Harris and her mother would have been of a significantly higher SES than an upper middle-income would normally impart. Harris very likely interacted and socialized far more with upper class people than middle class people. Additionally, she certainly would have been perceived as upper class by a large majority of the middle class. Everything I've asserted is so obvious that the most reasonable explanation for me having to make the points to you is that you're a liar, like Harris is when she asserts that she grew up middle class. Which is very on brand for you. James4HJ: As a medical school professor and medical doctor . . .
Shyamala Gopalan was not a medical doctor or professor, but a research scientist. The OECD definition of “middle class” is income between 75% and 200% of the median income. A research scientist typically makes about the same as a police/teacher couple, which fits the definition and is consistent with what most people consider to be middle class. That Gopalan saved for ten years to buy a house also fits the notion. QUOTE: The Left’s Assault on the Constitution . . . expanding the number of seats . . . term limits . . . binding code of conduct None of those policies would fundamentally undermine the Constitution (such as giving the President absolute immunity would). Though term limits may not be constitutional, it would not necessarily undermine the separation of powers, but could arguably strengthen it. QUOTE: "decision after decision overturning long-standing precedent" Stare decisis is the foundation of the common law, and while not absolute, abandoning the principle could represent a threat to the Constitution. QUOTE: The past few months have seen an explosion of books and articles laying out a new vision of “democracy” unconstrained by constitutional limits on majority power. While constitutional limits are important to protecting minority rights, forever stifling the majority is not sustainable over the long run. As James Madison pointed out "lex majoris partis" is a fundamental principle of republicanism. The larger point is that the U.S. Constitution remains the bulwark of a stable system of representative government. The Constitution is not perfect by any means. (It failed completely in the middle of the nineteenth century.) As James Madison wrote, "no Government of human device, & human administration can be perfect; that that which is the least imperfect is therefore the best Govt." QUOTE: Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. Examine the Progressive rejection of the Constitution and its principles. What caused the century-long transformation in the understanding of the American political order? And how can we restore free and constitutional government today? Who will fact check the fact checkers... It seems the 'insiders' at ABC are outing the fact checkers.
Found at the Geller report 2024/09 ABC whistleblower: Kamala was given the questions, promised Trump would be "fact-checked" and Kamala would not. ... more whistleblowers coming forward. The Kamala goose is cooked... where's the Haitians? My father's family were farmers in Appalachia who immigrated to Texas at the turn of the last century. So I suppose you could say I was raised in an Appalachian culture, even though I am not an Appalachian. The other side of the family were descended from slaveowners in Alabama and Virginia, and they also went to Texas at the same time. So there's that. Deplorable to the core.
For years we lived close to the Ballard Canal/locks in downtwon Seattle. One of the very few times the Seattle planners have included a nice place to sit is along these canals. Lovely trees hang over the canal, and it is easy to hop in/out of the water. ON MANY, MANY, MANY occasions, we would see Asian-type people capturing ducks to take home, kill, and eat! I have no doubt that people who are used to hunting and eating meals in jungles would be able to capture a family dog and have lunch. By my observations, I am quite sure that it is not a big step to capture/eat a domestic dog. Don't forget they raise and sell live dogs in markets in China. Somebody somewhere captured that on a cell phone!
