Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

For awhile, Kodak was providing the chemicals for a competitor of Accoya to process acetylated wood. The chemicals were actually Kodak waste product.
re What Happened to Tucker Carlson?
Meh. I very much doubt that Tucker's interview with the crackpot historian moves the needle on antisemitism. Stuart just needs to take a deep breath and calm down. Or, alternatively, Carlson needs to stop interviewing antisemitic crackpots. And RWers need to stop being dismissive of such behavior.
Ok so he's an obvious 'crackpot'. So why worry about what he might say? Let his crazy ideas be put out there for public scrutiny and rebuttal.
"Kamala Harris got the debate she wanted."
This script was written before the debate. She didn't debate anything. She refused to answer any questions and fell back on blaming Trump for everything. And she needed the two "moderators" to harass Trump to take the pressure off her. And then there is the question of who was putting words in her mouth through the Bluetooth ear pieces. To everyone who thinks Harris did well in the debate tell me what her answer was to the debate question "are Americans better off today than they were four years ago?" I wish Trump had taken the moment in his rebuttal to say, "Kamala was asked if America is better off now than four years ago and she avoided answering the question. I will answer that for her and everyone. The answer is NO!" But maybe Trump was skittish about not answering the question, "How do you intend to deport 11 million illegal aliens?"
I don't follow Cooper, he's got a subscription blog called 'Martyr Made' or something similar. Anyway, a couple of years or so ago, he had a Twitter comment that went supremely viral for a few days, laying out in short sentences the key points that have been driving the passion of Trump voters and conservatives, essentially the valid, unaddressed sore points that motivate them. It was succinct and very well done, and I feel certain that many would remember it if they read it now. I'm pretty sure it was covered here on Maggie's Farm. It articulate very well what a whole bunch of people were feeling.
I don't think that Cooper is an anti-semite, or a white supremacist. I do think this has been a golden opportunity to portray him as one, though, and Tucker Carlson too. He's a friend of Jocko Willink, a weight-lifter, and a mostly self-taught intellectual. He has said this before, which I thought was a notable quote: “In Weimar Germany & Bolshevik Russia, churches were often not merely bulldozed, but converted into sex clubs, porn theaters, & brothels. Communists in Spain killed priests, raped nuns, and used churches as a place to sh*t, p*ss, & leave their trash. This is what these people do - what they always do - when they get control.” - - @MartyrMade He has also said: "“People who would betray the confidentiality of the Supreme Court over a decision they didn’t like would certainly disregard the Constitution to arrive at one they did, and feel supremely righteous in both cases.” These don't sound like things that an Anti-Semite might say. I haven't read into the issue at hand, not interested. If he said despicable things, then he is rightly being taken to task for it. Now, Tucker has made some very poor choices of interview subjects over the past couple of years, but I've never been a fan of his, either. So to me, this is a tempest-in-a-teapot, an attack that might have some basis but is almost certainly being portrayed inaccurately and taken out of context to enhance the effect. The chattering class has so destroyed its credibility that this must be the starting position in any politically-charged discussion now. And since it's about two subjects that I don't really follow, I'll let the rats chew on it, without my input, and to the devil with all of them. Hmmm. Did Jocko Willink interview Cooper, have him on his podcast?
Just an aside, I first heard of Jocko from this blog. He was interviewing a special operator concerning an accidental mission in Vietnam. I think that episode was two parts and approaching four hours. I thought I found a new podcast to listen to. Jocko does have interesting military guys on his show, but mostly it’s about jujitsu and working out. Jocko did turn me on to About Face by Colonel David H. Hackworth. Excellent read. "I don't follow Cooper," would seem to be at odds with "I don't think that Cooper is an anti-semite, or a white supremacist." Also, it is beyond bizarre to conclude "These don't sound like things that an Anti-Semite might say." from the quotes you provided, given that they in no way mention or even implicitly mention anything related to Jews.
First of all, I said that I haven't followed the story and don't intend to, and then I followed with 'If he said despicable things, then he is rightly being taken to task for it. ' I should think that it should be clear that this is not somebody that I'm defending. I am pointing out that in our current culture, cancellation of people for artificially ginned up reasons to service political agendas has become the norm.
I don't follow Cooper. I know who he is. Those two facts are not in conflict. Try constructing a profile of an anti-semite in your head, and then tell us the sort of things you imagine they would say. I am imagining that somebody being labeled an anti-semite would not be saying things that are against supremacy themes, or things that are in support of the kind of Western society that some of us miss having around. Teaching kids to read IS NOT HARD. My daughter was reading at 3, my son at 4. While I like to think my kids are extra smart, they really aren't. Schools must be TRYING to churn out ignorant kids.
There is a lot of information out there about Russia and NATO preparing for war, nuclear war. One headline is "Russia Puts Advanced Sarmat Nuclear Missile System On ‘Combat Duty’". This stuff is as serious as a heart attack and is totally ignored by the MSM. Why would all the MSM ignore these inconvenient stories? You would think at least one or two reporters would mention it but it seems to be forbidden. Why?
Knowing how to read and having basic math skills should be prerequisites for a child to enter the school system.
Revisionist history is bad. Trying to justify the Holocaust is evil. Interviewing a crackpot is what? Misguided? I haven’t listened to the the interview, it’s almost two hours long. I don’t pay that much attention to Tucker Carlson. I find it curious how the right wing bloggsphere has just flailed on this dead horse for days now. Ed Driscoll, at Instapundit, has beat this nonsense to death. Of course the guys at Power Line had their pompous knickers in a wad. I think one of them, much like Driscoll, posts on it daily.
I searched both CNN and ABC News, arguably the most left wing ‘news’ site on the web, for Darly Cooper: nothing. Guilty by association. The same game the right has played for years. In most cases it’s just slander. Why is the right continuing to attack Tucker over one interview? Trump. I dare say that there is more pixels spilled, from the right, on the Cooper interview than on the democrats openly supporting Hamas. A Harris administration will fully cut ties with Israel, but hey, Tucker talked with some weird guy on his podcast. And Tucker and J.D. Vance talk with each other. J.D. Vance is going on Tucker’s show. That’s the important thing. I have always enjoyed studying history.
Histrionics, not so much. I like Tucker, watched every night when he was at FOX, listen to a lot of his interviews. So I am probably biased. But "who" he interviews is not a reason to extol or criticize anyone in that business. IF he ONLY interviewed objectionable people than it would be legitimate to draw conclusions. IMHO his interview of Putin was brilliant and the only reason he caught flak about it is because everyone else in the MSM and those supporting/funding and directing the MSM were jealous. "IF" I were an interviewer I would probably NOT criticize the interviewee in fact I may compliment him, say good things etc. Not to deceive, most people would be smart enough to pick up on that ploy, but to not pollute the well before I went to it. Why piss off someone you intend to interview, unless you are grandstanding for your fan base, which would be a little disingenuous. I would pursue a cordial interview and let the questions and responses speak for themselves. In fact I would not, necessarily, even choose to disrespect the interviewee after it was all done. I mean, this is your job, you will interview other people, they will know how you act and react accordingly. No! The interviewers job is to ask good questions and allow the interviewee to answer fully and not to inject their own biases or add their own commentary. Let the questions and answers speak for themselves.
Every now and then, earthquakes occur along the ring of fire. Sometimes there will be a few sub 5.0 quakes in varying places spread over a few weeks, interspersed by a few days of quiet. And then, unrelatedly a bigger quake, maybe in Japan, maybe in Alaska, happens, and then nothing, maybe some more sub 5.0 quakes and more quiet. And then suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere a magnitude 9.2 earthquake hits somewhere on that ring of fire. Most likely Alaska, LA, or it could be Japan or South America, maybe even San Francisco (we do have the world series coming up). OR, it might be nothing...
Apparently, using a real camera instead of a phone is cool again. My granddaughter requested a specific camera--a Kodak. Perhaps (probably) some Chinese company just bought the rights to the Kodak name instead of it being an actual Kodak product. But, still, at least the Kodak name still has value.
