Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I will say the story left out a bit and misunderstands the problem. Chemical imaging companies recognized that digital would take over eventually. There are instant cameras today with the name Fuji, Polaroid, and Kodak, with little market.
People use phones which incidentally take pictures, not cameras which incidentally take phone calls. The problem was not a failure to go digital but a failure in not having a phone which also take pictures. The mistake was in not buying Apple when they could have in the 1980's or even 90's. "Why do Stupid People Exist?"
This is no small question. This is about 20% IQ and 80% other mental abilities. This is about education vs no education. It is also about attitude, stubbornness, culture, environment and for lack of a better term "fuck around and find out". there are absolutely stupid people, low IQ, dumb as a box of rocks. But years ago they were able to adapt and lived long lives because they had no other choice. Today you have a choice to wallow in your stupidness and ignorance and someone else will be mandated to pay your bills and take care of you. The reason a LOT of stupid people exist today is an extension of what Larry Niven once noted: When a species develops a civilization capable of supporting its own genetic rejects, evolution stops. We're now keeping human beings alive who should never have reproduced...women who require C-sections to give birth, people with hemophilia, people born diabetic, etc, etc. Low intelligence, however defined (IQ testing, social success, monetary success, whatever) is yet another thing that a civilization through its "welfare" systems to which it now assigns an arbitrary survival characteristic.
The true test will come in the next civilizational collapse, currently being accelerated by the collectivist/statist/authoritarian idiots among us. Remember Heinlein's words, "Stupidity cannot be cured. Stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death. There is no appeal, and execution is carried out automatically and without pity." Agree. Civilizational collapse begins with financial collapse. See South Africa and Zimbabwe. When skill sets and material go away, so does the culture. Now look at the condition of our cities and the condition of its inhabitants. Dysfunction is in the air.
Blackwing1: When a species develops a civilization capable of supporting its own genetic rejects, evolution stops.
Humans have helped one another, even those with serious defects, long before civilization; indeed, for as long as they have been human. For instance, during the Neolithic a person with juvenile-onset quadriplegia was kept alive until his forties, which obviously required help from his community. Such cases have even been identified in Neanderthal. See Tilley & Oxenham, Survival against the odds: Modeling the social implications of care provision to seriously disabled individuals, International Journal of Paleopathology 2011. Also, some genetic traits may have both deleterious and beneficial effects, while other traits may have beneficial effects in some environments. Consider myopia: While it's a disadvantage in the hunter, it's an advantage in toolmaking. So, a hunting community that has some myopic individuals, through balancing selection, could be more successful that those without; one to knap the stone spear tip, one to throw the spear. Furthermore, evolution hasn't stopped. Not only is genetic drift an important factor, but war and sexual selection have left distinctive imprints on the human species. Thank you ChatGPT.
Now Quibble-DickZ you can STFU and go away taking your contrarian bullshit with you. You're annoying the intelligent adults around here. I wouldn't dismiss him/it so quickly in this case-in the context of a discussion of the concept of 'stupidity', the responses of the entity known as 'Zachriel' represent a perfect example of the subject.

so why is Eric Adams paying migrant costs now?
Every major city run by the left and in particular by the black left is a massively corrupt system where money is stolen, high paying jobs are handed out to friends and family and every opportunity to acquire more money from government is funneled into corrupt politicians pockets. The federal government gives NY billions for migrants and politicians pocket half of it and in turn make sure NY votes Democrat. Almost all of the covid-19 money sent to left wing cities and states was stolen by far left politicians and NGO's. America is being robbed and almost all of the terrible things your far left politicians do is intended to facilitate the steal. QUOTE: When Dick Cheney and Vladimir Putin Endorse You... If you support Kamala Harris, you are now on the same side as Dick Cheney. — Robert F. Kennedy Jr Cheney is like the mad scientist in a 1950s sci-fi movie, who creates a monster and realizes too late that he has to stop it before it escapes, then gets destroyed in some horrible way by the monster. QUOTE: Harris, the lobotomized squirrel Oh, just got it! It's a parody of a wingnut. "Cheney is like the mad scientist in a 1950s sci-fi movie, who creates a monster and realizes too late that he has to stop it before it escapes, then gets destroyed in some horrible way by the monster."
Never thought I'd say this, but I actually agree with the the Zachroid on something. Zachriel made a hash of his comment because he was so eager to appear clever and insightful, which he isn't. Read his comment again. He's saying Trump is a monster that Cheney created and is now being destroyed by Trump.
Is that what you're agreeing with? Cheney(s) hates Trump more than he loves America!
The Cheney's know that the Democrat party has turned communist. They know that the goal is to spread chaos and divide the country so that they can take it over and make it into a Marxist/socialist country which will inevitably become a full blown communist government. Make no mistake they know this. But Trump would expose the DC swamp for what it is and "maybe" end some of the fraud and corruption and they don't want that. They hate Trump so much for this that they will side with the communist to stop him. "Cheney is like the mad scientist in a 1950s sci-fi movie, who creates a monster and realizes too late that he has to stop it before it escapes, then gets destroyed in some horrible way by the monster."
Hum. 1. Cheney has never been a supporter of Trump in any of his presidential elections. They are notably at odds over the policy area that Cheney has been the most passionate about most of his life, war making. That's why lying progressives like you pretended to hate him right up until a few days ago when y'all began treating him like the best thing since shite bread. 2. Harris and the democrat party are clearly the ones that would appropriately be deemed "monsters" since they are clearly the extremists and authoritarians. 3. Cheney isn't being destroyed. He's getting more attention in the last few days than he's gotten in over a decade and more praise than he has ever gotten in his life. Maybe stop playacting at being clever or especially insightful and stick to just simply straightforwardly stating your absurd opinions. James4HJ: 1. Cheney has never been a supporter of Trump in any of his presidential elections.
Cheney supported Trump in 2016. He was largely absent in 2020. Since J6 and Trump's election denialism, Cheney has come out against Trump because he see Trump as a danger to the Constitution. James4HJ: 2. Harris and the democrat party are clearly the ones that would appropriately be deemed "monsters" since they are clearly the extremists and authoritarians. Cheney (the topic!) clearly believes otherwise. As much as he rejects Harris's political views (slippery slope and all), he sees Trump as by far the greater danger to the Constitution. Keep in mind that Trump has said he would be dictator on day one, would terminate the Constitution, and has threatened to use police powers against his political opponents. James4HJ: 3. Cheney isn't being destroyed. Well, the analogy is far from perfect. It's not even clear Cheney recognizes his own responsibility for the dire condition of the political system. The neo-cons and democrats love themselves some more wars.
Trump doesn't go along with that program, but Harris does, just as the Bushes, Clintons, Obama, and Biden loves those wars. They make great stock market investments and remind the world of who is the 'King'. Cheney is a neo-con. "Since J6 and Trump's election denialism"
J6 was a peaceful constitutional demonstration until under cover FBI and bussed in Antifa and BLM agitators turned it physical. It was an intentional unconstitutional attack by the government on citizens. I hope someday all the hostages sent to the DC gulag sue for damages for this violation of their civil rights. The election was stolen. Most elections since about 1960 have been stolen by Democrats. But this one was so heavily in favor of Trump that it required a massive steal and thus it was obvious to everyone in the world. Other countries are still laughing at us. The entire purpose of the J6 setup was to distract attention from the stolen election. The purpose of calling someone and "election denier" is to continue to try to hide the stolen election. You're delusional. Trump is a natural loser when it comes to politics. He lost in 2020 and most people he endorsed for 2022 also lost. He's doing his best to lose this time around when it should be nothing but an easy knock-out.
Win or lose this November, I just hope that everyone is done with savior politicians.

You do realize they already had their day in court? There's ample video of people breaking the law. Is t your position that courts never reach incorrection conclusions? That prosecutors never overcharge or charge innocent people? That judges or prosecutors are never driven by personal or political considerations? That investigators are never less than competent or honest?
Would you be so dismissive of such questions if the defendants were of other political inclinations?

Absolutely not. But a sweeping generalization doesn't mean it is correct in particular cases. OneGuy hopes the J6 defendants will have their day in court, when they have already had their day in court. Whatever arguments the J6 defendants have would have a much better chance when they only need to provide reasonable doubt rather than a preponderance of the evidence. Beyond that would require looking at particular cases.

"Cheney supported Trump in 2016" I stand corrected. Thanks.
"Keep in mind that Trump has said he would be dictator on day one, would terminate the Constitution, and has threatened to use police powers against his political opponents." This is the stuff that you just can't help yourself on that completely destroys your credibility. At the absolute best, your characterization of Trump's positions is as ungenerous as one can possibly be. It is much more likely propaganda that you have willingly assimilated or are consciously repeating for some perceived personal or political benefit. Trump is consistently hyperbolic. It simply is not reasonable to claim that Trump likely meant or intended for the statement about "being a dictator on day one for just one day. The refusal to contextualize the statement with the "for one day" phrase is also a tell about your dishonesty. But one need not rely on his hyperbolic statement to predict his behavior. He was actually president for four years. Make arguments based on his actions. And try not to bring up "J6" since your characterizations of it have been equally dishonest. Nor did he call for the termination of the constitution in his truth social post (I've read it). But that's an exceptionally rich complaint coming from you given all the blatantly unconstitutional acts democrats have engaged in and their recent propensity for calling for the abandonment of the constitution, including one of Harris' primary political advisors. He has not threatened to "jail his political opponents." He has advocated prosecuting people for crimes he believes they committed. But that is also especially rich coming from someone so eager to justify the unjustifiable lawfare waged against him. "Well, the analogy is far from perfect." That's the understatement of the year. The analogy is not only so flawed that it doesn't work at all, but also so misconceived that most people misunderstand it. BTW, I will happily trade the Cheney's, Romney, the McCain offspring, David French, Bill Crystal and etc. for Tulsi, Elon, RFK, the Weinstein brothers, Jordan Peterson, Matt Taibbi, Russell Brand, etc.
If you consider yourself a serious thinker, which you clearly have pretentions of, you should be concerned about the fact that the defectors to your side are limited to the repetition of shallow talking points, tone policing, and hyperbolic descriptions of Trump and his supporters. Like you are. While the defectors from your side to my side consistently have very thoughtful, well fleshed out, deep, complex and well supported arguments. Take for example, RFK, who if your political party and allies had not subverted the democratic process repeatedly, probably would be the democrat presidential candidate now. And you would have been praising profusely. He now accurately describes Harris and the democrat party as authoritarian and a threat to the existence of not just our basic constitutional rights and our representative government, but the country itself. None of which you would be able to ignore or dismiss if you had even a modicum of intellectual honesty or moral integrity. James4HJ: It is much more likely propaganda that you have willingly assimilated or are consciously repeating for some perceived personal or political benefit.
Referring to the 2020 election, which Trump believes was stolen from him, Trump said, "A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution." That's very straightforward, in writing, and still on his Truth social account. James4HJ: Trump is consistently hyperbolic. That he is. More than that, he's an equivocator. James4HJ: It simply is not reasonable to claim that Trump likely meant or intended for the statement about "being a dictator on day one for just one day. Yet, as someone running for elected office, it is reasonable to take his words as having meaning. It's not the same as your crazy uncle telling a story about his father being with Washington crossing the Delaware (the guy in the red shirt with the oar), then laughing and pinching your cheek to let you know it was all just a joke. James4HJ: He was actually president for four years. Among other things, Trump wanted the Justice Department to drum up criminal charges against comedians, such as Kimmel and Colbert, who were critical of him. But he didn't have sufficient control of the organs of government. The stupid cartoon and university ideology... Carmichael, Sartre, and Foucault driving insanity to new heights in the intellectual world.
The best critique...by Chantrill "This article is helpful as a demonstration of the utter blindness of the educated class which is, experts vehemently deny, the most unjust and totalitarian ruling class in all history." "And it rules with a political formula that recites a constantly updated lie." Paid migrants' costs... just another reason we have had continuing resolutions since Obama. The budget has degenerated into nothing more than a slush fund. Funds are laundered through the admin state to keep the Ukraine going, to support the migrant invasion, funding Pharma, and bailing out the failing blue cities through welfare and infrastructure, more green insanity and finally lawfare to keep the enemy at bay.
Not sure if the top two linked articles were meant to be a duality, but I read them one after the other and couldn’t help but notice similarities of intelligent people. Some intelligent people use their gift for the betterment of humanity, others, not so much. And what is it with these Marxist types sexually abusing the maid or nanny?
Much of Reich’s perversions are now main stream, embedded in the Democratic Party’s plank. He would be skipping on cloud nine, fully ensconced with LBGTQEEW. Yes, he would joyfully cry out, remove the children from the family! Destroy the family! Ninety years ago, society fully rejected his lunacy. Einstein ignored him. Even the full on commies had him figured (at least publicly, in the end, full on communism does not support a middle class): “there were no orgasm disturbances among the proletariat, only among the bourgeoisie.” Same today. Who today pushes the trans madness? The so called elite, the bourgeoisie. Low IQ people have never been the problem in the world. It’s the intellectual that causes the most problems. Charles Schwab of the World Economic Forum has just announced that "an era of shock events" is coming ahead of the 2024 US election as the global elite prepare to unleash chaos in Western society.
I can well imagine that Charles Schwab has done some shady stuff. But if you're talking about the WEF, I think its Claus Schwab you should be critical of. ;)
Because of archaic laws the federal government has a stranglehold on hunting/killing all geese and ducks. Because the federal government controls it the penalties are huge and there is zero chance of beating the rap. You intentionally kill a goose or duck under any circumstances without the federal governments stamps and papers and "by your leave" and you could go to jail for a year and be fined $10,000. Now, they don't generally do that, usually they fine you, maybe take away your hunting license for a few years. There are exceptions, people who have harvested a dozen ducks and geese on their little pond blatantly breaking the law have indeed gone to jail.
But in Springfield Ohio where Obama's puppet sent 20,000 Haitians the "immigrants" are killing the ducks and geese and ZERO repercussions. No fines, no loss of license, no jail, not even a game warden or Marshall came to chastise them!!! Make no mistake, this is the federal government choosing to look the other way on a crime that they would crucify an American for. David Friedman has asked why stupid people exist as well as short men. Perhaps he should ask why male pattern baldness exists as well.
