Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Strange bird to see

I did a double take when seeing a blue and white Parakeet (Budgeriar) picking up gravel from my driveway.


Maybe an escape, maybe an "accidental" like birds being blown by storms like Debby. After Tropical Storm Sandy I saw a flock of Brown Pelicans over my house.

After Hurricane Katrina (or Ivan), I forget which, my wife was certain she saw an Ivory Billed Woodpecker (vice a pileated woodpecker). She'd seen the latter several times (in NW Fl), and was certain the woodpecker she saw was substantially different, I believe notably due to the white trailing wing feathers. It's entirely possible she saw an almost extinct, if not extinct, bird, but highly unlikely.

May be an escapee. We lost our Amazon parrot when our son came in through a sliding door. He had harassed that bird and when it had a chance it went in for the attack and went out the door.

Storm-driven reminds me of what the memoir of a family friend stated about the Hurricane of 1938: trees sustained salt damage 40 miles from the ocean.

The Hurricane of 1938 put her father into a "if you've got lemons.." mode. He turned all the trees struck down on his property into a log cabin.
