Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re Labour Set For Crushing 170 Seat Majority In UK General Election, As Conservative Party Suffers Worst Result In Its History
The voters wildly succeeded in spanking the Tories. One wonders though, if the cure is worse than the disease? I shudder to think what Labor can do with that kind of majority. It also seems there is no political party that represents a large percentage of UK voters. I get the sense that the Uniparty is much bigger over there than it is here. UK politics are very confusing. Labour, Torries, Conservatives, the names mean little and those in these various parties break down into subgroups of special interests. Division defines the parties and looting the dying country is the rallying call for most. And slowly day by day, bit by bit the great replacement continues relentlessly. Ditto for most of Europe, Canada and Australia. We are witnessing the great decline of the West. A self inflicted wound that foreign powers are exploiting to destroy us.
"I shudder to think what Labor can do with that kind of majority."
Here's a start. Continue and accelerate Britain's progress toward Green energy suicide. Nationalize some more of the economy (likely the energy industry). Force the development of '15 minute' cities. Encourage Scottish independence. Dismantle Britain's nuclear deterrent and withdraw from NATO. Reenter the EU without a referendum. Up until this election I thought the Germans would win the European race to have the first people freeze in the dark thanks to 'Green' energy. Now I think it will be Britain. Labour votes actually fell. They won a "landslide" but not collapsing as badly as the conservatives.
Hopefully both parties are going extinct. Red-Britain committed suicide on July 4th 2024. There's an irony there but the humor escapes me. The Labour party is communist. It is made up of open communists and those who lean towards communism but will vote with their party no matter what. Red-Britain's future: less free speech and more hate speech laws, continued, perhaps accelerated illegal immigration, more poverty more crime, more knifings, more arrests of Native English for objecting to it all. I am surprised at the low turnout but maybe most of the Brits were too drunk to go vote. Yes, too drunk! Have you seen videos of some of England's larger towns during the day? Drunks, druggies, fighting, and the police harassing the sober good citizens. And the police!!! That's a whole other story. Half of them were born in Africa and snuck in at night in a boat from France. Yes the illegals are "police". Not "real" police exactly. They can push you, assault you, lecture you, harass you, make your life miserable but must call a real cop to arrest you. England has farmed out their policing to the enemy! LOL!! Oh wait! That's what California is going to do too! We are so screwed.

They can fail, which, in my view, is likely what will happen. By the way, it's Labour, not Labor. So now Biden is going to end Parkinson's? I guess he's given up on curing cancer?
Why do we need legislation to cure Parkinson’s? Glad you asked. Without legislation, there’s no federal dollars. With federal dollars comes much graft and very little cure. If 5% of the federal dollars actually go towards finding a cure, I will be incredibly shocked.
It’s not the First Amendment that is out of control, it is the federal government that is out of control. Klaus Schwab can explain it all to you. How about I don't freak out over Hurricane Beryl, maybe it will stop illegal immigration for a week since it's going to hit South Texas/Mexico. They did wait till halfway down to blather on about climate change. Maybe don't build houses on the beach.
re Building the Bell System
A comment from a relative that read the piece.: QUOTE: AT&T was certainly dominant because of its size but it never was the only player. There were always other companies that manufactured and sold telephone equipment including automatic switches. The first automatic telephone switch was developed in 1892 by an independent inventor not associated with AT&T and deployed by an independent company in 1894. AT&T did not install its first automatic telephone switch until 1919. Independents had been doing so for 25 years at that point. Lincoln Telephone installed its first automatic telephone switch in Lincoln in 1904. In Nebraska, because of the size and presence of Lincoln Telephone, AT&T's share of telephones in Nebraska peaked at 55%. Egypt Teeters On Brink Of Economic Ruin As Public Debt Mounts, Poverty Rate Soars
QUOTE: Last autumn, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi gave a speech in the New Administrative Capital in Cairo, the $300bn project that will ultimately define his presidency. He said hunger was a small price to pay for progress: "If progress, prosperity and development come at the price of hunger and deprivation, Egyptians, do not shy away from progress! Don’t dare say: ‘It is better to eat.'" . . . A decade after ascending to the presidency, Sisi has pushed the economy to the brink of collapse. The symptoms are everywhere. A severe debt crisis is strangling the state budget, the economy is heavily militarized, billions have been invested in white elephants with dubious economic benefits, and the crown jewels of the Egyptian public sector are up for sale to meet mounting debt obligations. https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/egypt-teeters-brink-economic-ruin-public-debt-mounts-poverty-rate-soars The country has been in that condition since Mubarak was overthrown and replaced by the muslim brotherhood and Morsi. Then Sisi and the military overthrew Morsi and rid Egypt of the MB politicians. Don't bet that the MB, with outside help are stirring the pot in Egypt. The CIA/State dept would be my guess. The Obama/Kerry regime were rather angered over Morsi and the MB being removed during Obama's term.
