Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re The top 10 big ‘lies’ the medical community is telling patients, revealed by a doctor
The title and the style of the article had me expecting the sales pitch for the doctor's product at the end. I found the article short on substance. Meh. I found it to be more quackery suitable for late night TV and selling super beets. It is the same old scam but a new scammer with better degrees on the wall.
re New Panic: Slowing the Burning of Fossil Fuels Will Cause Global Warming
Mind boggling. I can only speculate that this is a new strategy to procure grant funding for further "study". The political money scams are created to get taxpayer/borrowed money funds out to political supporters. $500-600,000 dollar housing units for the homeless, multi-millions for immigrant support to NGO's and their contractors, more multi-millions for defense contractors to fund overpriced equipment to strike multi-dollar targets, and of course the never ending war on climate. The grift receivers gladly return 10% to the big guys.
The primate species known as "human" has been mixing and matching for at least a couple of hundred thousand years, and we're not done yet. When we start colonizing space, things are really going to get interesting.

Quite so. However, with regards to Genghis Khan and the Y-chromosome, unlike other chromosomes, the Y-chromosome does not recombine. The Y-chromosome is passed intact (with a small chance of mutation) from father to sons, father to sons. RebeccaH: When we start colonizing space, things are really going to get interesting. Quite so. You will likely see the founder effect, where a new population is established from a small group of colonizers. If the colonies become isolated for some reason*, they may even diverge substantially from the home planet. re Trump’s Return Would Transform Europe. Without Washington’s embrace, the continent could revert to an anarchic and illiberal past.
Indeed, returning to its "anarchic and illiberal past." is the recurring these in this lengthy piece. Sorry, 1914 or 1938 are not coming back. Europe is in a demographic death spiral and is being destabilized by 10s of millions of migrants. Nobody wants war. For the Ruling Class, life is good. Why derail the gravy train by going to war? Nobody has the desire to go to war and that has been the attitude for decades. The United States pulling out of Europe is not going to change that. Russian tanks aren't going to roll all the way to Brest and Bordeaux without a US presence. The Russians simply aren't strong enough to do it and lack the logistical capability. The author also writes, "U.S. intervention helped turn a “dark continent,” as historian Mark Mazower called Europe, into a post-historical paradise at the heart of an expanding liberal order. It was a world-changing achievement—which some Americans now seem determined to put at risk. There you have it. The author sees the over taxed, over regulated, freedom stunted Europe as a "paradise". Tells you all you need to know about the author. He wants to see the status quo continue into the indefinite future and sees an illusory 1945 Red Army lurking should the hated Trump take the US out of western Europe. Rising nationalism, migrants and rampant money printing are all irrelevant. This is paradise, after all. The world has changed and he just doesn't want to see it. re Trump’s Return Would Transform Europe. Without Washington’s embrace, the continent could revert to an anarchic and illiberal past. I'm already voting for Trump. You don't have to sell me.
If 80 years after D-Day, Europe can't keep it's stuff together it isn't our problem. Precisely, John.
Even if everything the author fears comes to pass with a US abandonment of Europe. It's. Not. Our. Problem. The U.S. military is "unofficially" at DEFCON 3. Unofficially because it would be cause for alarm and would need to be explained how we got into this clusterfuck. We are on the verge of open war on three different fronts and all of them nuclear capable/likely.
The U.S. banking system is on the verge of collapse. Believe it or not about 70 banks are as we speak desperately trying to negotiate over due loans and "sell off" defaulted debt. Most of these small banks will fail and the FED will have to gobble them up with printing press money AND do their best to keep it all on the down low. Possibly within the next 30 days or so. You have no doubt heard about the 100 or so ISIS "immigrants" that ICE has identified. What you haven't heard much about is the tens of thousands of shady immigrants from terrorism supporting countries that were "got aways". You don't luck out and become a "got away" you must pay the Cartel a lot of money for them to smuggle you in and not get caught. Most illegals are happy to get caught and get the VISA card, cell phone and $2200 a month in welfare. The "got aways" cannot afford to be caught because they intend America harm and they must remain unknown. How many "got aways"? No one knows. Could be a million or more. Not all are terrorist some are merely rapists and murderers so it's not all bad, right? While it's true that not all jobs in the military require peak physical fitness, the problems with slacking off on mandating passing fitness tests are:
- Being physically fits instills pride, not just in their bodies, but that EARNED self-esteem also carries over into their performance on the job. - Many jobs within the command are not solely sedentary or capable of being handled by someone who is out of condition. While a person may be able to perform most of their job while being a schlub, those admittedly rare conditions of needing ALL present to snap to and exert themselves are, in fact, what the military are meant for. That it might happen only rarely is not the point; those conditions are why ANY of them are recruited. Otherwise, you could just hire locals with some job experience. - Poor condition is a limiting factor on readiness. - Failure to meet fitness levels can indicate OTHER problems, including drug use, depression, and apathy about the job. Those conditions, if uncovered as a result of a failed fitness, may be dealt with, and that soldier/sailor/airman may be returned to the job, health improved. |
