Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

That the CEO of Impossible Foods has poopooed the idea of cell-based meat does not help with them overcoming the culture wars. I have no problem with synthetic meat. But I think the idea that plant matter can replace meat is a joke.
RFK Jr has been smart enough to not talk about his really crazy ideas. If you look at what he has said in the past there is no way he should ever be close to the reins of government. He is truly certifiably crazy. He actually believes that reparations is acceptable, middle of the road, supported by most Americans. And of course it is nothing more than a way to buy votes. Should any black person who was born into welfare and lived off of welfare for most of their lives get Reparations? Seriously! They should be paying it back not asking for more free stuff. Welfare is nothing more than buying votes. The Democrats dabble in socialism as a tradeoff to gain power. Socialism will destroy us. Sooner or later someone will have to pay the interest and the $35 trillion back and that will be paid off with suffering, hunger, despair, and death very likely a great depression 2.0. Where did all that money go? well of course to buy Democrat votes.
That's pretty much my impression and conclusion as well.
Another 5 billion for black farmers... Tom Vilsack has been the Ag Secretary under both Obama and Biden and has dispensed so much money to black farmers (and gardeners) that they have no real reason to even get dirt on their fingers anymore.
I can see absolutely no resolution to the deficit if these clowns continue to hold office. Well remember when he would blow in to an annual event up Lake Louise way to lecture us all on how our profligate use of fossil fuels to keep ourselves warm, provide electricity, and enable trucks to bring us food was killing the planet. The stunning hypocrisy of his proclamations as opposed to his actual use of carbon-based fuel to get to and from here.
I would really like to know how you found Peachy Keenan? I only know of her because I listen to that curmudgeon (he would get the joke) Fr. Robert McTegue’s podcast. She’s a listener favorite. One of many.
I don’t think anyone should be surprised at the reaction from the left, concerning the Harrison Butker commencement speech. The left hates everything that is good, pure and natural. They especially detest the Word of God. This is a group of people that celebrate killing the unborn. But they’ll tell you how tolerant, diverse and loving they are. They also are liars. Their thinking is as old as dirt. Utterly regressive. Glad to see Maggie’s Farm back in business - with the links. :) Peachy posts at Substack. I'm a subscriber for her free content, which included this piece. She's also got a paid subscription if you're a real fan.
Congratulations BD, I'm glad your frustrations appear to be over!
Hunter hospitalized with ‘significant injuries’ after grizzly bear attack in British Columbia
First thing that came to my mind is what was Hunter doing in BC and I hope he dies and the bear isn't overdosed. Then I realized you didn't mean Hunter Biden. The Salman Rushdie link duplicates the RCP one - this goes to the story:
https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/salman-rushdie-palestine-state-taliban ZeroHedge picked it up from here. Is Oreo about to become the next Bud Light... probably, but I found a great alternative at Aldi's. They have Oreos but their own brand is just as good and cheaper... and they even have them with DOUBLE filling.
The trannies can dunk their Oreos in their Bud Light. Eeeww. The difference is this time the Cassandras are warning them of the perils before they go over the falls.
When their sales tank they can't say they weren't aware or warned. QUOTE: To the Class of 2024: You Are All Diseased . . . I then pose a simple thought experiment to them: If you were given a time machine that could take you back to any period in the last 12,000 years—since the dawn of civilization—when would you rather live? Parham's argument could have been made by King George III in 1776. Why worry? Be happy. Or made against Martin Luther King's movement in 1964. Why complain? Lincoln freed the slaves, didn't he? Pointing to the current state of progress doesn't mean more progress isn't possible or desirable, or that problems don't exist that need correcting. QUOTE: You see, I believe we currently live in the golden age of humanity. Things have never been better for human beings. Yet it seems we have never felt worse about our prospects. While much of what Parham says is correct, he makes the exact same mistake he says others do, that is, claiming this time is the worst ever for concern about the future. In fact, people's view of the future has always depended on circumstance. Consider someone in 1939, a time with fascism ascendant. It is important to recognize the great strides that have been made. But that doesn't mean that there are no threats to that progress, such as climate change and unrestrained capitalism, or that pointing to extant problems can't lead to even more progress. There's the problem of the fundamental issue that there isn't any consensus on what the problems are. Your "problems" are trivial at best and mostly made up and differ from the list of problems everyone else commenting here would make by 179 degrees.
Then there's the issue of what the solutions to the problems are. Those solutions are likewise diametrically opposed. The left is pretending that problems that were largely solved decades ago are still serious problems. While they are creating new problems that are often worse than the alleged problems. In sum, progressives like you are the source of most of the modern developed world's problems. Ya'll are horrible people. James4HJ: There's the problem of the fundamental issue that there isn't any consensus on what the problems are.
That’s always been the case. King George III would argue that the monarchy is the only sure guarantor of stability, a prerequisite of English rights, that even if the colonists had genuine grievances (“Ingrates! Don’t they know how much better they have it than previous generations?”) they would be best dealt with through existing political structures. As for Martin Luther King, his “Letter From a Birmington Jail” directly addresses the tensions surrounding reform. To claim, as Parham does, that people today feel worse about their prospects than all previous generations is just as facile as those who claim today’s problems are worse and therefore insurmountable than at any time in the past, or as facile as ignoring the very real problems facing human society today. Letter from a Birmingham Jail: "I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councillor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically feels that he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time; and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."
Plant-based meat alternatives are trying to exit the culture wars – an impossible task?
