We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I am given to understand that for some people, the process is more important than the outcome, particularly when complying with government regulations. Perhaps this type of persons have influence at Boeing?
The problem is a shift of emphasis - from 'Build the Best Airplanes' to 'Compliance to Government Edicts is Primary'.
And I get it - when the government is your customer, you've got to do everything the way they want. They say 'Jump!', you ask 'How High?' as you're on the ascent. And there's some reason for that - they want a lot of quality control on their products. Which Boeing's having some trouble with lately.
The trouble comes when EVERYTHING the government pushes out becomes pretty much mandatory, even if it's just a 'Hey, this'd be nice if you did this DEI stuff...' sort of thing. It won't make constructing the airframe easier, but someone in government wants it so that's what'll be put at the top of the 'Get 'er done' list.
Having lived in Seattle for 20 years, some of which my DH had interaction with Boeing, we are well aware of the value system currently in control there.
Also, when I reported immense education fraud and we complained about being blacklisted, stalked, etc. I COULD NOT get ANY ATTORNEY to take our case. The response from every attorney was the same: "I can't take this case--I am afraid--they will destroy me!" YUP 23 Seattle attorneys said the same thing, some even had tears on their cheeks. NOW, with that kind of fear spread throughout the legal system who or what do you think Boeing administration worries about?
It seems when business majors take over an aircraft firm, the quality goes south, for temporary profits. Boeing used to be a great firm...hopefully their wakeup call has been answered correctly.
